gday, been lookin round for oil to do my diff and gearbox(6spd manual) oil in a 2008 ve ssv ute, but have been told that they are a sealed unit never to be changed? but the have fill and drain plugs. is this true?
and if so what oils been run through them? my manual just says refer to holden, so rang them and said can only get the oils in 25litre drums...?
get a life....DRIVE A UTE
Why do you want to change the oil?

Mines going in soon for some fresh oil. For me no such thing as filled for life. Eveyone I know who has done 60k and changed the oil (gearbox, diff) have commented how black and watery it looked compaired to fresh oil... Both diff and gearbox (auto/manual) felt better for it...
my 2 cents worth...
Diff oil in my vs was horrible when I changed it. First time in it's life at 180k.
Auto tranny always feels way better after you do the fluid too
Australian LS1 and Holden Forums
I just did my T56 with 5l of Penrite 70 manual gear oil with the nulon g70 and the results are awesome!! Only need one finger for gear changes know
As for the diff I haven't gotten that far yet..
+1 for Penrite 70
Very happy with it
I used castrol when i changed the diff in mine. The diff had done 20000 kays and the oil looked a bit ordinary so out it came. You can buy it in 1 litre bottles.
Should be good for the life of the vehicle. The life of the vehicle means until the warranty runs out
Hay Guys Can anyone explain the process on HOW TO drain this diff oil on the VE V6 is the process same as vs to VZ commyies which are easy as and could someone tell me what oil to use and how much as sealed for life surprises I prefer Castrol oils but not sure which one. Further More has anyone ever replaced there Power Steering Fluid either Cheers guys hope someone can help Ta Mark
I still need to do my gearbox and diff oils. On the side of the box there's a fill hole. Just fill it til fluid is level with that. Same with the diff.
The castrol LSD oil should be fine for your diff.
90% sure penrite lube guide lists fill quantities for gearbox and diff.
As for power steering, I did mine when I changed the pump. From what I'm told just drain and refill the reservoir as the old fluid in the rack will then come back up the return line and you can either catch it or just let it mix in.
I used mainlube gear oil in the gearbox and diff, is expensive but so are 6 speed manual box's.

VE steering specifies Dexron6 but i'm starting to think this is a con-job to help holden sell fluid. Dex 3 has to be sufficient, its only a dam steering pump after all .... Or check the data sheets on the good Dex 3's and you'll find some of them comply with ( but can't call themselves ) Dex 6 specs due to GMs trademark on Dex6.
Helped a mate change the auto fluid in an old Bimmer once that was supposedly sealed for life. The old fluid was black as darth vaders underpants and it ran heaps better with some regular valvoline dex 3 in it.
Did it last? They usually won't run for long without the right fluid.
Sealed for life on anything with clutches (auto box, LSD etc) is a load of crap. On a manual or open diff you could possibly get away with it.
To the op, I don't know for sure but from my understanding for ps all you need is hydraulic fluid so dex3 is fine
^^ The 318i bimmer specified Dexron3 but was supposedly sealed for life so it was still using the 'right' fluid after we changed it. That was a load of BS too because the dam thing was leaking like a seive, so it wasn't sealed too well at all really.
Ok guys Ive already done the Auto Box service that was easy since its only the decade old but reliable four speed box which now has dex6 init go figure.
Any way where might be the drain hole ( if any in the VE 3.6l V6) and the fill hole be as i have searched and caint find either and is it required to be pumped in or can you just poor in like the old VT-VZ and i assume the Castrol SAF sinthinic oil is good for it cheers guys and thanks if you can help.
