Default Difference in ve ss exhaust between manual and auto with afm??

    Hi guys,

Just a quick one. Is the standard exhaust system(from the cats back) the same for both the manual and auto(AFM) VE SS, or is there some sort of difference?

Also mine is a Series 2,

    thanks in advance

I dont think there is any reason why it wouldnt be all the same, the only difference is the AFM on the auto

There was a differnce in the rear mufflers, intermediate and headers when they were using L76 for Auto's (car equiped with AFM) and the Manual's which had the L98. Now I believe they are all the same at from front to rear.

Basically the AFM cars had flex joint at the rear of the intermediate just before the rear muffler bolted up and the rear muffler was a single outlet Y piece with chrome tips for the quad look. At the header end, then engine pipe (connecting to the cat) was slightly shortend to accommodate another flex joint.

On the manual there were no flex joints (either end) and the rear mufflers had a true dual pipe outlet. Can post pics if you need them...

    Cheers
    Phil

Lol that was an option before the lifters decided to start tap tap tapping, so cant really afford to risk warranty atm

anyways back to topic....dont put the stock exhaust back on, if u changed it u obviously want to hear it, so if u have to turn the AFM off, do so

edit: just read ur latest post, ok wait til fixed, keep the exhaust stored til ur confident its fixed, then put it back on! anyways, i dont think it would void warranty, if the exhaust caused the problem then it would be void...

Could you not just keep the gearbox in manual shift mode until everything is sorted? Should stop AFM from kicking in.

I dont know if its made this way but in my manual mode it still kicks in if in 3rd, 4th or 6th gear, not 5th???? Not as often of course but it still does.
I was on the M7 last wknd and neither manual 6th or Drive was any good at all, virtually vibrating along...

    Hey Guys,
First Time Poster, Long Time Troll!

Look I signed up for info for My VE II SV6 Ute, Manual

I have always wanted to change the factory exhaust, but for looks only, pretty happy with the sound level, a deeper growl i wouldn't mind, but not a volume big increase, I definitely do not want a drone!

Ive decided to go out and get a SSV Rear mufflers, suit my application perfect,
If i could choose any, wich one would be best?
VE SSV AFM (Y Pipe after the muffler)
VE Non AFM (One in two directly out)
From what i've read and gatherd... a SSV exhaust NON AFM will enhance the growl, a lil bit, but mild drone,
SSV AFM Will sound exactly the same?...

Is there any difference between HSV rear mufflers and SSV Mufflers?
    Would they be different again?

    Thanks

afm mufflers almost as standard...no drone and slightly louder than stock

It depends on which HSV mufflers you choose. The "standard" are the same as an SS with the single in and true twin pipe out, only difference is the HSV have billet tips and the SS has chrome (which I think look more impressive). The HSV exhaust option (also depending on HSV model if option or standard) which is a Bi-Model exhaust (rear muffler) which is kinda like a varex system. Those mufflers are louder than the others.

I was at my local dealer last night in the workshop and my mate was preparing a brand new off the showroom floor yellow E3 GTS to take to Walkenshaw for fitting of the supercharger. When they drove in I asked what exhaust it had because it sounded nuts. It was factory standard and growled its head off... But at abotu 1,500rpm the Bi-Model system kicks in to quieten it down. You can fit the whole HSV system to the car with those mufflers (just that you can connect up the rear muffler solenoids) so it should sound pretty loud with out being to agressive.

I don't know what it would be like on an SV6 but on an SS V8 it would be interesting to hear...

    mine did this also.

the way to get around it is when you get on the highway switch to manual mode, knock it back to 5th wait for about 30 seconds then knock it into 6th, should keep AFM off then!
and you can drive around shifting manually and the AFM wont kick back in until you swtich back to [D]rive

Also, on the Drone problems, i am Dynamatting & Dynapad my wagon this weekend, will let you know if it makes much difference
