hey guys,
im in the middle of fitting up a competition audio system into my Omega,
just a quick question, or two,
how will i go about trying to find a high output alternator? ive found 120 amp ones on ebay, but not really sure they will charge the battery quick enough for the amps to run,
are there any higher output alternators out there?
i have a dual battery system here, but yeah, not too sure about drainage and stuff
thanks guys
I think your best bet would be a power cell and something like a optima battery.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
What sort of competition? If it's SPL competition, you don't have the car running when you compete so the alternator is irrelevant.
It's very unlikely that there will be a direct replacement alternator with high output. You'll need to have an alternator rewound to produce more power or have a generic high output alternator custom fit.
Pjdm, thanks for your suggestion, I currently have a standard battery, but also have a optima battery as a second battery, the power cell completely skipped my mind,
Stonex, yeah doing spl, but my current issue is the voltage drop, I have a 5 channel and a 4 channel amp running 13 speakers, and just worried that my alternator isn't charging the battery quicker than the amps are draining
Thanks
then your problem isnt the alternator, its the battery.... the alternator doesnt run your audio system, the battery does.
if you got a 4 channel AND a 5 channel amp powering 13 speakers, you can be damn sure you need to invest in a better battery (and some caps).
hope you got $$$ though! Car Audio Batteries Capacitors
Out of curiosity, why do you have 13 speakers? Is it like a demo car or something. Chuck some pics up.
Also capacitors aren't going to do much in a SPL comp, caps can't do much for a sustained tone note.
Have you run a big ground cable for each battery? Or are your batteries negative linked up and then using the factory grounds? Have you upgraded the 'Big 3'?

If the car is off, the battery supplies the car's electrical system.
If the car is running, the alternator supplies the car's electrical system... Until the electrical system draws more than the alternator can supply, then the voltage drops to the battery's level and the battery starts supplying the system too.
We need to know what the amps are and how they're wired... They could be Boss amps that draw 20A each.
