Default Real silly silly question... but gotta ask it.

Real dumb i know, but how the crap do I engage reverse in my manual SV6?

Got it, love it even if they 'forgot' to order the DVD and tint... but can't put it in reverse

    Cheers

    Use the force.

Or failing that use the clutch and the shifter.

No, not that simple. It doesn't have a pull up lever to engage reverse, nor does it push down to engage reverse

    What? Lever?

Move the shifter all the way left, than up, while holding down the clutch.

theres no fancy way of 'engaging' it like in other cars with a lift up or push down,
the gate for reverse is a little harder than for 1st, so when you want 1st you push it gently left and when you want reverse you push it harder, you will feel it when you do it right dont worry youll get used to it

It sounds like you gearbox is a bit stiff. You might have the model fitted with a stage 14 cop shift chip. It cancels out most Sinusoidal Phase Detractions but It can make shifting into reverse a bit difficult.

When mine gets a bit stiff I just grip it a bit tighter and force it to go where its meant to. The same principle can be applied for changing gears

all u have to do is in neutral push it to the left QUICKLY. from there push it upwards and reverse is engaged. when in neutral if move the gearstick slowly you can only lock it into first gear. hope this helps.

I know what he's talking about - in a lot of cars, (including korean holdens) you need to pull a ring or a clip upwards to engage reverse - or even the whole shifter in some cases.

Nothing like that on a commodore - you push it past the 1/2 gate (v6 - v8s are past 5/6 gate) - there will be a notch there and push forward as if engaging first, but a gate further over. You won't be able to select it if you're moving.

Have you turned the actual key on ? , my SS will not entertain reverse without it turned on all the way.

Failing that , you maybe should have bought an auto.

    Cheers.

    Funny bugger

Car was on an incline so may have been rolling back. Come back to a manual after having a DSG Passat / Manual Audi Quattro Turbo and a Holden Cruze.

Will have a play, hopefully am not so retarted... again.

In most Automatic cars you just pull the lever straight back 1 click and it goes into reverse. Also to put my forklift in revers you pull the green lever towards you. These and many other examples also have zero relevance to an SV6 too.

Up and left. As Sab said - why buy a manual if you can't drive one?

You put your left foot down, your gear stick left, your gear stick up and you shake it all about... you do the hokey pokey and you move it around, thats what its all about...

    all together now...

All sorted. What I meant by using other cars as an example was the fact it was a no brainer putting it in reverse. The sv6 is a bit stranger. Car is a manual and not automatic.
Car was bought from comm motors tuggeranong, and I paid more attention to th fact that I ordered the fold down DVD and didn't get it, this argument was taking place while he was showing me the rear camera and nav. Ordered plates hadn't come in, so that also made me miss the reverse quirk. Thanks for the helpful cOmments.
