    Default Wierd "safety" recall

My wife just took our MY10 that has the RSE unit into the dealership for something unrelated and they tried to convince her that there is a "new" safety recall that requires the reprogramming of the central instrument cluster because occassionally if there is a DVD in the DVD player (i.e. in the RSE roof mounted drive) the car may become 'unsafe' (oh, and they wanted the car all day to do this amazing piece of wonderment, and 'we'll just do a service on it for you as well otherwise we have to charge you for the labour').

    1. I've never heard of such a "safety recall". Has anyone seen anything about this... any tech's know what they might be talking about (or was it just scary bumpf to con her into a service?)
    2. If it's a safety recall, shouldnt it be free no matter when its done (i.e. with or without a service), and
    3. Because she said 'no, just do the small item you are being paid to do this morning as I need the car' they presented her with a piece of paper asking her to sign to say she had refused the DVD RSE safety recall and told her they were going to 'void her warranty' because of it. Now I really dont think they should be able to do something like that.

I'm no expert on anything other than bass guitars and what not to say to your wife but I have to say 'alarm bells'. Contact another dealer for clarification or look up the holden web site.

My assumption is that safety recalls are covered by them not the buyer? It would be a bit stupid if we had to pay for their mistakes lol...

I'd either call or go and visit another dealer...definitely get a second opinion, sounds dodgy to me. As said above - safety recalls are typically covered by the manufacturer, not the customer.

    same here man!!

holomatrix.. recalls are all free of charge! no matter what.. and they know that. but all there trying to do is get money out of your wife because her car is wasting there mechanics time which could be spent on a job worth money.

i'd go to a different dealer because what there doing is absolute bullshit

Funny thing was we had only had the car into another dealer closer into town about 9 days ago to have the actuator (ruber touch thingy on the tailgate - apparently some get water in them and stop working) replaced under warranty... and they never said a word about any 'recall' on anything.

They did the WoF (pink slip) for her this morning after protesting about this stupid recall - and gave her the car back. (with protestations that the car we have been driving without issue for months was magically, today, *really* unsafe because she didnt let them service the car and 'update' the instrument cluster for this supposed DVD RSE error). I cant see how you would a) update the instrument cluster for an error in the RSE DVD player... or b) how, even allowing for the fact that the RSE is on the low-speed can-bus, and the front CD player is across-busses on the High-speed bus... how could an issue that stops the RSE DVD from playing a be an urgent "safety issue" warranting rudeness and forceful sales pushing from a dealer service manager?

safety recall but we'll charge you labour if you dont service car???

i got the solution- go to the bottom left corner of your computer screen, click start, then programs, then Microsoft Word.... and start typing a letter to:

    Customer Assistance Centre
    Holden Ltd,
    PO Box 1714,
    Melbourne, Victoria, 3001

And explain exactly what you just said here, because whoever said that to your mrs is trying to take advantage of her. VERY poor form, and you should tell Holden about it otherwise this particular dealer will keep doing it. Arses.
