Default VE SV6 Auto trouble changing gears

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has seen or heard of the following problem I only recently started having whereby my automatic can't gear up.

If I'm in 1st sitting at around 2000rpm and quickly jump it up to 3000rpm it will get stuck in 1st and you can feel the engine trying to go into 2nd. It won't go into 2nd unless you ease right back and then gently accelerate.

Same thing goes for 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th but they require around 6000rpm to produce the same problem. My local Holden guys had the car for the best part of a day and couldn't figure out what the problem was and said that they've never seen it before.

So if anyone has seen or heard of this and knows of a possible fix I'll gladly pass on the information.

    Thanks

If you make any quick jumps in revs, doesn't that tell the tranny to stay in gear for a bit longer anyway?

It's not in sport mode too is it?

If there is a problem and holden have aknowledged the problem then they will just replace the gearbox if they cant figure it out is that what they are doing or are they say its operating normally?

If you put your foot down it WILL stay in gear it wont go up gears whilst you put the throttle down past a certain amount.

Not in sports mode (but according to Holden guys even sports mode will automatically change gears if it needs to). And the problem is not that the car will stay in its current gear a little longer the problem is it won't leave the current gear. For example, I'll be doing 50km/h at 2000rpm quickly accelerate to 60km/h at 3000rpm and the engine won't budge past 60km/h after that and the revs will bounce between 3-3500.

They were going to test another sv6 to see if this behaviour is 'normal' but it sure as hell doesn't sound normal to me and then call Holden to see what's what. This post was more so just to see if anyone else had had this issue or heard of it so I could get a rough estimate on how long it'll take to fix, right now they're saying they want the car for another 2 days.

Appreciate the responses though guys, I'll be sure to update with the final resolution and just hope this weird reving / gear changing behaviour isn't hurting the engine long term.

mine does the same. but only in sports mode. if i boot it. it seems to hang in 4th. only if i back off for a second then it jumps into 5th. doesn't do it often. maybe 2 times out of 10. and only in sports mode when i floor it. otherwise it doesn't do it. haven't worried about fixing it yet. as i don't always boot my car often.

Mine does strange things like that too in Sports mode. For instance if it's in Sports mode and i accelerate hard it seems to stay in gear at extremely high revs for a stupid amount of time and it only changes down a gear if i lift off a little and accelerate again. Sometimes i think it won't change at all! Looks like the halfwit engineers at Holden have stuffed up the calibration yet again.

Just to reiterate this is also happening to me when not using sports mode (I rarely use sports mode).

Gearbox flaring is common, mine did this often. Had my tuner look at it and he has pretty much eliminated the flaring right out of it.

Just an updated on this, after having it for another day the Holden guys said they couldn't find any issue and couldn't cause the transmission to hold the gear anymore. They said it was an issue with low petrol in the tank but I'm very skeptical of this as the car had less petrol the 2nd time around. I'll just have to keep an eye on her.

I fail to see how a low fuel tank can effect anything to do with the g/box to be honest.

Some of what you guys are describing sound like the "performance" aspects of the trans tune. The trans is designed to hold the current gear, even at high revs, if you have tromped on the gas and then quickly take your foot off the accelerator. Also, if you drive the car hard, throwing it around corners, for about 15 sec, then as you approach corners the trans will downshift aggressively. They call it something in the owners manual but can't remember.

(PMLF) Performance Mode Lift Foot. For the record.
    *Only in sports mode*
"This feature is activated automatically when sports oriented driving is detected, based on cornering and on/off throttle application. PMLF allows the transmission to hold the currant gear instead of upshifting when throttle is lifted."
