So without getting backyard stuff off E bay, what are the best globes i can get for my low beams off the shelf at Repco, Supercheap and places like that ? H7 i think
Phillips plus 50%, Hella, Narva. ...
I blew a globe the other day ...dam automatic safety lights switching them on and off all the time lol.![]()
Phillips has just released the +100 % globe range you can get them from Bursons or Repco
i psent 80 bucks on phillips globes at autobarn when my globes blew the first time....then when the phillips blew my dad went to some globe shop and bought two no name H7 globes for 3.50 each and they look exactly the same......could have saved myself $73
dont be silly like me
Er what the Fudge is a Globe Shop ? Sounds good if they exist, i like single digit car parts. Just like the time i had to buy a new brake pedal rubber for the Mrs suby, cost me $4 from the dealer.
The real question is were the phillips and the no name ones any better than the originals ?
I had narva plus 50 in my old commy, and they were really only 10or 20 % better than standard.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
I bought a set of calibre from supercheap.Cost about $45 for the pair Found them to be whiter than what was in .But the holden lights are crap compared to my wifes Aurions. They aren`t HID. look more like house style bulbs but 300% better lighting of the road
I just bought and installed Phillips CrystalVision 4300k globes in the parkers, low and hi beams of my VY. I was going to get standard replacements just for the globes that had blown, but I opted for these because I drive up through Emerald at least once a fortnight and the extra light will help with the blind corners and the cockheads that like to sit on 70 in the 100 zones..They also come in H7 and I would recommend them to anyone who wants something noticeably better than the standard white/yellow.
i got these from max vision my hid sets including my fog globes. dropped the low beam a little. and there fantastic so much better on the road.

Second that... Got mine installed there.
Price of a pair of Philip bulb (which blew after 3 months in winter.. Philip is bad....) so why not.....
They install a lot of Holden =) Gotta love my projector with HID as projectors are mean to go with HID not the gayness halogen LOL
These are the brightest non-HID globes I've used (they lasted about 12 months in the H4 version) and I've used a heap of globes

hey mate I just bought some cheapo h7's from supercheap and they are brighter than the originals were! Don't stress and don't waste your money on expensive ones.
They're not the same
Anyway, to the original poster, here's some info I found... The lumen difference seems only quite small and not worth the trade off of hours but from my experiences they were noticeably brighter.
Standard H7:
55w, 1500 lumens, 500 hours
H7 ultra "Plus+50" (any brand):
55w, 1580 lumens, 225 hours
H7 Xtreme "Plus+80" (Philips) or "Plus+90" (Osram):
55w, 1620 lumens, 200 hours
H7 rallye+65 (Osram only):
65w, 2100 lumens, 500 hours, obvious choice.
The extra 10w is of no consequence as far as electrical power or heat --
those 80w to 100w bulbs are a different story, and they produce less light
and have a shorter lifespan than the Osram 65w item.

i got an ebay set and was as good my ezihid 35w 6000k in my last car but my ebay hid are 5000k (which are not as blue) and 4000 Lumens for $45. i'm doing a 120km daily drive for work 6 days a week is dark in the morning and coming home. i sweer by them for the price
I plan on fitting H9 55w 4300K HID's to the high beam & H7 35w 4300K HID's to the fog lights in my Series 1 VE SV6 and leave the low beam standard halogen as this avoids attracting attention from the fuzz and HID light scatter from the low beam due to having reflector lenses which is annoying to oncomming traffic.
I had a full HID bi-xenon High/Low + High beam conversion on my VT i recently sold and even though i lowered the low beam focus on several occasions it got to a point that it was pointless having them.
Oncomming traffic still used to flash me sometimes and i know i dont appreciate it when other cars comming towards me have low beam HID's that are incorrectly focused or being used in reflector headlamps either.
This way you have the best of both worlds, Super bright on high beam whilst still being user friendly to other people on the road around town and when passing on the open road.
I travel 150kms return daily for work leaving in the dark with the odd kangaroo to be weary of so ultra bright high beam is a must and to be honest i am a little dissapointed in the VE's standard headlights.
They guy i car pool with has a VZ wagon with standard halogen headlights and they are miles better than the VE, holden definately went backwards with the VE's headlight quality. Well the series 1 anyway, i am not sure if the series 2 is any better.
The H7 rallye+65 (Osram only):65w @ 2100 lumens @ 500 hours, do seem the obvious choice for low beam as far as lumen output and durability so i might throw a set of them in to help things on low beam.
Just remember that having non OEM HID's fitted could have serious insurance implications but for my situation i think its worth the risk so long as you take the time to make sure they are set up correctly
I will be upgrading my parents VE Berlina to the H7 65w Osram bulb. Takes the original H7 output of 1400 lumens, and gives the Osram H7 65w output of 2100 lumens with same lifespan. In staying with these bulbs and not going HID, it will give more light and will keep the existing light beam pattern spread, unlike what a set of HIDs would do in a reflector housing.
These are also completely safe for the plastic lenses as the minimal increase in heat and output isn't enough to worry the plastic lenses or the wiring or the car.
