Default How to lower stock standard suspension?

I have VE berlina with 19" SSV series 2 wheels. Does anyone know if it is possible to lower stock standard suspension by about 2 inches without having to buy new suspension. Can this be done easily?

    Cheers.

    Yeah dude, it's piss easy.

Just get your hands on an Oxy-Acetylene torch and give them the once over.
Not too much on each one, or they might sag.

if you know what you're doing easiest/cheapest method would be to cut them. But you will probably #### it up. For the price of springs $200 a set might be better? Upto you

also if you cut them any insurance you have on the car will be void cause chopped springs aren't road worthy ... so just buy new springs ... generally at wholesale suspension or pedders or something like that its about 550 for all four installed with a wheel alignment ... or i got springs and shocks (king Springs and munroe shocks) on ebay brand new for 690 and i got them installed cheap ... i have done just springs and springs and shocks and for two inches the ride quality will be way better if you buy shocks and springs ... cause if you lower it too much on the standard shocks they get too hard and choppy but its up to you

About 500kg of railway ballast or bricks oughta do it. And yeah, it's real easy. Herp.

I've sat in a VY SS and a VE SS with cut springs, they weren't that bad, definitly drivable. Not the best but if you know what you're doing and accept the risks. Personally I'd rather springs and shocks.

You dont buy a nice 20grand car and then chop the springs down to save $200. Thats just poor logic in my opinion

I dont know how you would chop springs in a VE as the rear springs are tapered

If you've got some fat mates, just ask them if they'd be willing to come with you where ever you go, will look tough as and will probably impress the ladies when they look inside the windows at old mate licking on an ice cream, unless you're like me and don't like people having food in your car...

If you can afford a VE Berlina, you can afford to lower correctly and safely.

Think of you fellow motorists on the road.

Do it the correct way mate, and not only will it be safe but it will keep your ride heading in a safe direction.

    Cheers.

Took longer then I thought for someone to point out the tapered springs. My first car (vn) had cut springs in it when I bought it, they lasted the drive home til they were replaced. Not worth the risk but in a ve you could only do the fronts and the effort required to do it just to save a few dollars isn't worth it, just buy some kings off ebay

Okay I will get some new springs. Just the low the ones. Is it essential to get the shocks changed as well?

    Cheers

Joey, nah you can just do springs if you aren't going too low, but shocks will help.

just for your knowledge joey, as far as king springs go i'm pretty sure that "SL" or "low" is FE2 hight ie sv6/ss/ssv hight, "SSL" or "super low" is one inch lower than FE2, and "SSSL" or "Ultra Low" is 2 inches lower than FE2 ... just for you to have some idea ... That is what i have worked it out to be ... please correct me if im wrong anybody.

if you go with SL or SSL than you should be fine to keep the standard shocks i reckon

but if you go kings, just tell them your required hub to guard measurement. they will then tell you the springs you will need to achieve that height.

    Thanks Astroham.

I am thinking of going the super low king springs front and rear tomorrow. Would anyone have a picture of a VE with super lows front and rear on 19 inch wheels.

    Thanks everyone for your advice.
