Hi all,
Its been a week since I received my SV6.
Here's a list of my initial thoughts
Kilometres: 600ish
Petrol: 1 tank used to date (e10 used) + plus filled up on Sunday with 91
1- Car itself: Very responsive and very comfortable to drive. 2nd gear is a bit of a pain sometimes, but I figure I will get used to. Reverse is notchy to get into, but it is getting better.
2 - Handling, very solid (very suprised, as its my first rear wheel drive car).
3 - Seating, SV6 seats are quite nice and firm.
4 - IQ, not bad quite versatile. Only thing that could be better is another usb port so i can connect both usb stick and my iphone.
5 - speakers.. well crap. the most dissapointing thing about the car.
6 - brakes: sufficient, but feel they could be better. Upgrade options anyone? My old Passat had huge brakes that were very good, as was my Bugeye STI's Brembos, but I feel the SV6's are just a tad too small.
Things to come:
3k service will be an oil change, tint and DVD player install.
Future plans:
Upgrade to stock speakers / amp
20" Supersports or the like
Larger brakes
and cause its a lease vehicle, nothing else!
Just my thoughts, but overall, love the car!
I put SS front and rear brake calipers on my SV6 ute.
Also DBA slotted rotors.
Holden genuine 'Police Spec' front pads
All up about $2,000
Brakes like a euro
SS V8 discs are about 20-25mm larger that SV6
I too have owned mine for a little over a week with 1000kms on it.
I agree with all of your thoughts, but find the body roll more than expected, but I was used to a fairly hardcore drive before in the suspension department.
I have already changed the brake pads to the Remsa front QFM as recommended by many here. Very cheap upgrade for under $200 all up and an hour of your time.
I'm thinking about a small sub to assist the sound but otherwise, not much more to do
Current Ride: 2011 VE Sedan - In Voodoo of course.
Last Ride: 2004 Subaru Liberty GT, Twin scroll turbo, tuned, Bilsteins, sway bars, no rice, 420Nm
Also Own: 1964 EH Wagon, modified interior, minor modifications outside
Congratulations on the purchase and glad you're happy with it.
I think the brakes are a bit of an issue across the board - they're ok for day to day use, but just. As above, a pad change can make a significant difference and should be plenty for street use - contact Greg from GSL Rallysport and have a chat about the Remsa pad option - he's a sponsor of this site. Could also grab some braided lines to help with the brake feel. Other than that, brake upgrades are limited only by your wallet - there's a number of excellent options out there.
Best of luck with the new car.
I have had my SV6 wagon since 8th April, just clocked up 6809km, I Liked it but didn't really love it. I have now gotten used to it and really do enjoy driving it. i stepped out of a 2008 Hilux SR5 4x4 Petrol, so chalk and cheese.
my 2 beefs are
Sat Nav is Rubbish, (Same issues as everyone else)
Blind spot from frt pillar is a pain, but i will survice
Positives
Great on fuel, (Drove it to Melbourne and back averaging 8.9l / 100)
has great turn of speed from the standing still
Handles well
I have Voodoo blue so the colour is great.
Sat Nav - not used, only the map function, which is ok for me.
Previous car was a 2007 Passat FSI 3.2ltr 4motion with all the trimmings, which really was more 'class', but i actually like the SV6 more.
Handling wise, I had a 02 STI so handling and braking was phenominal, so something to aim for.
Blind spot, Passat had it, so no change really.
Black is way cooler than any other colour ; )
Darko
Iv had mine scince feb now & i have found that the build quality is very poor...
Interior plastics not fitting right & door, boot & guard adjustment looks like it was done by a retarded monkey but other than that its fairly good...
My Hyundai i30's build quality was leaps and bounds ahead of the SV6
I WISH MY GRASS WAS EMO SO IT WOULD CUT ITSELF
Great car Darks. I'm sure it will $hit on the dac-dac once it settles in a bit more. Brakes seem to get a little better with use. My brake gripe is also feedback and how much pressure needs to be held on the pedal to stop creep when in traffic. I can't just use my big toe anymore...
I also hate the A pillar pedestian scarer but unfortunately most 5* safety rated cars have thick pillars. You tend to adopt the peek-a-boo wobble when approaching round-a-bouts and crossings!
As for colour, its a shame you couldn't afford "Nitrate"![]()
VE II SS-V Sportwagon
lol poison ivy is the only way to roll in an sv6
nah gald your ahppy with it ... i have had mine going on nearly 1 yearand i love it ... except as mentioned brakes and a pillar ... i have always ghad a system so it was no surprise that the speakers were crap ... but i love it anyway ...
Nitrate and poison ivy... puhlease!
Mica orange (whatever it was called) was the only way to go... failing that... Phantom is best!
Brakes will get done towards the end of the year.
Nav sucks big time, tried it out last night.. I got to the place i wanted to get to before i was able to plug it into the system....
Nahhh... you all need a bit of class and go Alto Grey..!!
Mines just over 3 months old, 6000k's and still just as happy as they day I drove it out of the dealers.
Yes, the satnav is a bit ordinary for the cost, but it does work.
Yes the A pillar creates a bit of a blind spot, but can live with it.
No complaints at all about the brakes...
Goes great, good fuel ecoonomy (8.6 to Bathurst and back) - Bathurst to Melb on one tank - only just!
Very comfortable - especially on country roads.
6 speed auto is really coool and smart as well
Leather trim I got is real nice
I did change the door speakers to improve the ordinary sound system - went with Polk DB651 speakers
About my only critcism is I have noticed a feint drumming or resonance at 95-100 on the freeway, but not there all the time.. Current solution is to drive faster!

I'm finding it hard to find a seating position I am happy with :P
I've done about 6000kms and I'm still making adjustments.
A pillars are shocking. I'm still not used to having to bob around so much to take corners. I almost got into an accident turning left cos there was a car hiding behind my A pillar. As I turned, they kept going so were still hidden in that blindspot. It was only thanks to my mate int he passenger seat who pointed them out to me so I managed to brake in time.
Which brings me to the brakes....I'm sure they're fine. They just don't feel like they're up to the job.....but yeah, push come to shove, I'm sure they'll be ok.
Other than that, I love driving my SV6....in Voodoo![]()
I find seats flat and non supportive (this is series 1 SV6 though)
Brakes are very average and stereo could be better as well
Other than that I'm happy with mine...
Maybe ditch the spoiler as it blocks vision and put senator one when I can afford it
The plan is to get front SS seats, and slotted DBA rotors with good pads to improve these aspects
Not too fused about stereo at this stage
guys, really.. the the colour argument again? It's obvious that Atomic is the ONLY colour have the car in - enough arguing over second place.

I WISH MY GRASS WAS EMO SO IT WOULD CUT ITSELF
