got into car this morning. started car. and the entire display where the radio is off. no clock nothing just black.. radio still worked . just no display at all.. ok it was really cold this morning outside temp was showing 1c and ice all over car windows. but strange for the display to go out. drove for a min and it came back on. never done this before since having the car. now had it for 3 years. the other parts of the center console was all on heater controls all lit up but just the display was out.. anyone else had this don't know if there is a plug to check or what powers that display area... can anyone help on this strange problem.
many thanks to you all.
I have a 2009 sv6 and I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Had to switch the car off and back on to make it work again.
well at least i know it just not my car with this problem.
something perhaps to do with the fact they are an LCD, or LIQUID crystal display... And if it was that cold....
it wasn't cold when it happened.
i wonder if its only common to SV6 owners? never happened to me, but then I dont have an SV6 either.
interesting that it came back on by itself later on, because if it was a loose wire or blown circuit or something it wouldve stayed off. maybe put it down to a 'gremlin once off' and see if it happens again.
Happened to mine as well on a couple of occasions not only on start up nut when I hit big bumps.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Yeah I've had this exact same thing happen. When it happened it was on the colder mornings last winter and it only happened when it was colder than normal. But each time after about a minute or 2 it came good. I just put it down to it being too cold for it (for some reason)
Common fault with the earlier model VE's where the SIC module fails. Had this happen to my SSV where instead of the radio, clock info display is for SV6 and SS I had the volt and oil pressure meter. The fix is the SIC module needs to be replaced eventually.
At the time it was under warranty. A new SIC model for an SSV is $345. Not sure the price for an SV6 or SS.
Edit: If you're going to buy one, make sure you get the right one for your year model. It takes about an hour to fit and are generally plug n play. No need for tech2 programming.

Happens to mine all the time. I think its got something to do with the light sensor and how it controls the brightness of the dash and auto headlight switch.
Yea happened to me too, just turned my ute on then off and it seemed fine after that.
yeah i get that in my clubby to... I push on the plastic around the whole stereo and it comes good
I don't think the OP was refering to the lighting of the facia controls. They were talking about the SIC or secondary information display which sits above the centre dash air vents.
When that completely blanks out (no information at all) is it due to a fault occuring in the module. If you keep driving for some time it will eventually come back on or simply cycling the ingnition can correct it.
Refer pic. The dash info in red.

Cold weather seems to cause a few problems. Since the cold weather started my auto lights don't work properly until things warm up. When I start up the lights come on because I'm in the garage, they don't switch off when I come out into the sunlight. If I switch them off the dash still looks like the lights are on. ie the electronic speed reading is still dimmed.
I'm still under warranty so it looks like a trip to the demon dealer, but the problem will have disappeared by the time I get there.
Yeah Bill44, same thing happens to my car as well. The dimming is standard and once the sensor gets enough light energy it will deactivate. I had my sensor replaced because I thought it was playing up. During winter I notice that the auto lights off - when I back out of the garage takes longer in the early mornings due to the angle of the sun and amount of direct sunlight compared to summer time.
I went through all this with my dealer and was pretty standard. Having said that I have noticed some security/remote/light sensors are more sensitive than others but by large the majority are the same.![]()
has happened a few times on mine
Turns out it is a connection issue on the faceplate. Happened the other morning in fact. I just wiggle the bottom of it and it seems to fix it. At the base of the unit (where the ashtray would go) just put your hand there and turn your fingers up. Grab hold of the ledge and if you pull hard enough you (which isn't hard) you can pull the face plate off. They say to give the terminal connectors a clean with alcohol. Mine seems to be ok and doesnt do it often but
A video of mine that I showed to the dealer

My display did the same thing (blacking out, returning to normal) happened intermittently for about a week before the fault 'burn in mode' appeared, needed new head unit and lcd for it, luckily under warranty!
This happened to my G8 once back in September last year I think it was.. It was out for one trip then next time I got in the car to go somewhere the screen was back again. Thought it was weird...

same thing happend to mine after a little physical contact with the fascia hasn't happend since but wont worry bout it anymore replacing whole unit with aftermarket
Yeah same thing happened on mine...only when i started a thread on it no one else had the problem....
First happened on really hot days then one day never came back on. Next service told them bout the problem and they fixed it with a computer reset (not really sure what that is but it worked)
