Hi Guys,
I know this topic has been somewhat covered in other post but unfortunately it doesn't answer my question.
I've had the check engine light come up over the last couple of months but it went away the following day and was coming up not frequently, but now it stays on..
Had it check by my local mechanic and had error code "P0018" description - Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor '1'
I've had the sensors & solenoids changed from left to right and still same error code, was hoping it would error "P0016" which would mean it was the sensor or solenoids.
Unfortunately it still "p0018" and have been told it's defiantly the timing chain which will cost aprox $2000 - $2500. Is it a possibility that it could be anything else??
I've only had the car for just over 6 months and has only 97,000Kms!
My dilemma is that the car is actually still covered under certified warranty except i brought the car on the other side of melbourne (2 hours away) also they only cover up to $1000! and Holden dealer as quoted it would cost $2200 - $1000.
Anyways your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!
Kyle
p0016 & p0018 is my code for stretched timing chain fault. a holden dealer quoted me $2600, i didn't have the cash so i did it myself for $1200. my car had just done 99,800km when it happened.
if you can get it done by them for $1200, id go with it
chances are they will want your car for a few days so to save a $1000 I would be booking it in and drop it off and get a mate to pick you up and drop you back the next arvo or even lower yourself to public transport.
Thanks for the feedback, looks like I’ll have to take it back to the dealer! I'm hoping the find it's something less severe, on the plus side it will cost me $1000 less :S I'll have to rely on publuc transport i think. This shouldn't happen to cars under 100,000Kms, I’m going to attempt to get customer service to cover the rest of it .. wish me luck!
Mate I just had a stretched timing chain replace by Holden, it is a known problem so as you say definitely put a claim into Holden and they will cover some of the cost. How much they cover will depend on what how far you are out of warrenty, kms done, how often its been servied at a Holden dealer etc. For reference my car was 9 months out of warrently and has done 75,000km and they covered 33% of the cost. I was charged $2,500 so they covered about $800. It also should take or two... although mine took 2 and a half weeks FFS! Good luck buddy
EDIT:
It is only a known problem on models with a build date before roughly mid 2007.
Thanks Mitch-89 my build date is December 2006 and first registered Jan 2007 so mine seems to fall into the time range of this issues of stretched timing chain under 100,000kms as I’m technically only 6 months out of new car warranty hopefully I have similar luck to you, with my "3 yr certified warranty" and a full service history from the one dealer fingers crossed I can get out of it at no cost.. but I think that is very optimistic.
I bloody brought a new car to avoid expensive issues like this. Holden is lucky they make some nice cars
My late 2008 (first rego in March 2009) had the stretched timing chain, However i was luckey enough to get it under warranty. Just for the record.
Im a true commy boy!!!
