hey guys im looking to lower my sv6 a bit, just wanted to know people experience with this, and how much they think is ideal to lower the car.
also i got quoted $1300, by holden, for them to do it, and its a new car, so my warrantly wont be void, is that a good price range?? thanx
If they're just doing springs (probably are), they're robbing you blind!!! WAYYYY too much!
ppl seem to get scared by the whole 'warranty will be voided' thing. it doesnt mean ur whole warranty is void. it just means in something goes wrong with the springs/shocks/whatever ur doing to lower it, its not covered.
but a good workshop will usually have some kind of warranty on their work anyways, so u wont lose out
if you look on ebay you can usually pick up a king spring / shock combo for around $700 bucks ... then some people charge round about 250 to install the rest is profit for holden ... note unless you go to SSSL's you probably wont need shocks anyway
you dont need shocks if youre only dropping 30-40mm, and you can get 4 springs off ebay for like $300, install for around $200! easy and cheap, dont get caught by people ripping you off for unnecessary parts or labour!
just remember that for the v6s the less weight in the front will mean you have to make sure you get the right springs, for example in kings springs - SL in rear & SSL in front will evenly drop the car 30mm, or SSL in rear & SSSL in front will evenly drop car 50mm (whereas in the v8s the springs all match) read the kings catalogue for more info
Not sure what's that's including, but for comparison's sake:

well to be honest i dont know exactly what they are doing, i told them i wanna lower my car they said they can do it, so i dont really know what the go is... thing is with this car, im buyin it brand new, so i figured, might let holden do wateva to it themselves, and pay the extra money, but if anything goes wrong, its on them?? also, i have had other cars lowered and didnt have too many issues with driving, but does anyone scrape?? how do u go about driving over a speed hump?? thanks guys
I'd be more worried about insurance not covering you. Most mainstream insurance companies won't want to touch you at the first sign of a 'modification'.
AAMI has no issue with it. Premium doesn't change if you don't want the aftermarket parts included (ie, no extra insured value) - or you can add them if you like.
RAA have no issues - ALL mods declared on my SSV - didn't raise the insurance at all.![]()
have you actually asked holden if its still under waranty after they lower it ... cause when i bought my car i was going to do the same thing ... but when i asked the guy that if they lower it is it still under waranty he said that holdens waranty doesn't cover the lowered suspension even if they supply / install ... thats when i went somewhere else and got it done for way cheaper
or you can just do an agreed value with NRMA that covers the cost of mods...
yeah you can do that ... or just have a car thats less than two years old and has new for old replacement ... including any mods ...
i have an agreed value on my car with NRMA, i added $10k to the market value (for mods) and my premium went up by about $75! so you may as well be covered for everything
You bring up a good point. I've talked about this with someone at Holden. Holden dealers aren't actually allowed to even supply or fit any non genuine Holden parts. The only exception is that they can supply and fit Walkinshaw bits and bobs.
So, no doubt, if one dealer is doing the dodgy and actually fitting non genuine mods, then they will most certainly not be covered by warranty (or shouldn't be anyway).
What I found at the dealership I went to (though didn't take them up on it) is that while the aftermarket parts they supply and fit will not be covered by holden manufactuer's warranty, the dealership will supply a warranty for their work to match the factory one, so long as all work is done though them. Still not worth it in my opinion, but it is something, I guess.
Quick question on a related note. I've called 4 different placed in Brisbane and the lowest I've been quoted to install springs + shocks and a wheel alignment is $440, but people here have said anything over ~$250 is a rip? Does anyone know a place in Brisbane I should check out?
Also the Holden dealer (quoted $595) said that they have had problems with after market springs causing knocking in the VE's, has anyone else had this problem?
i got my ve lowered on king springs and Monroe gt sport shocks and struts for $900 including fitting and a wheel alignment plus i can take it back in after its settled to get the alignment adjusted againa little clunk going over uneven ground like grass n that but ide say my strut tops are stuffed cos the shocks were

From people I have spoken to on this "inquiries;" If you use same springs (Say SSL) front and rear, you change the original attitude of the car, so you need (if you want) to use SSSL FRONT & SSL REAR to keep the original attitude. Just passing on info from a couple of phone calls I have made.
Also: If you want to replace shocks with Koni's (maybe other brands as well) you have to do a cut and shut on the front struts) Also just info picked up in inquiries...
^^^ what he said - if you like the rake of the OE set up, then you need to stagger the springs. Matched springs will level the car - which isn't a bad thing however.
Also correct on the Koni (and Bilstein) front strut set up - both are inserts that use a modified stock casing.
