2006 model, silver 6 cylinder. Lots of km travelled, as it ws an ex chauffeur car, but a low price to match. Very straight, good condition, and no unusual mechanical noises or issues - apart from the tyre pressure monitor system not working about an hour after I turned it on - I haven't tried to reset any of the tyre sensors yet. It needs a couple of tyres, so I'll have a play with it when I get them fitted.
Looks like I'll be frequenting this forum a bit more regularly now. I've already got some good info off the forum.
Cheers,
Dave G.
Hi Dave,
I've got an 07 WM Caprice myself. Had a hell of a time with the tyre pressure monitor system (TPMS). The dealer couldn't fix it and were charging me $350 odd each time to replace a sensor and re-learn the system. For some reason, the system wasn't storing the error code. So each time I took it in, the system indicated that there was nothing wrong.
The last time that it threw an error, I drove straight to the dealer, left the car running in the drive way, and got a mechanic to put a tec2 on it. Luckily, the error was still in the system (the front left sensor was buggered).
I bought a new sensor using the part number from the work done the first time only to find out that the bridgstone dealer used a different sensor. Turns out that Holden has changed the sensor a few times over the last few years and the ones fitted to our Caprice's aren't made anymore. (They have a metal stem where the new ones are rubber). Anyway, the Bridgstone dealer fitted an original one to my car and not the one listed on the work sheet. They had three left over and I snapped them all up just in case.
I relearnt them myself using instructions someone posted on this site.
It's all good now.
If you want a cheap current version of the sensor, let me know...
Hi rjp - that's what we get I suppose with buying a complex car second hand![]()

Our car looks in pretty good nick so far. I haven't tried relearning the tyre pressure senders yet, but it's good to know that the posted instructions work - I'll try it on the weekend. If not, it's back to the usual method of measuring tyre pressures every week or so. I don't think I'll be paying a Holden technician's time to learn what I can do for no labour cost.
Good luck with your car - we're pretty happy with ours so far. If we can organise some snow chains to fit it, it will be off to the ski fields in a few weeks. That should be a good test drive!
Yeah, it's a bit of a step up in complexity from the old VS Statesman that I had.....
Other than the TPMS, I had the usual problme with the CD player, but that was fixed under warranty just before it ran out. This forum has been a great help with other niggly problems that were fixed by resetting various bits (BCMs and the like) without the need to go back to the dealer.
All up, it's a great car to drive and be driven around in. Enjoy yours too!!
We're heading to Mount Buller in August. I rang the place where I usually get my snow chains from (Mansfield BP, 03 5775 2807, ask for Gavin) for the now sold VY and asked if I could get chains for a WM Caprice - 245/45/18 size tyre. Without hesitation, he said "Yep, no problems, size 104".
I have got a WM Caprice at the moment as well and I have just changed the rims to 22". I am also getting to TPMS error message, does anyone know how to reset this error message or get rid of it completely? I guess its nothing major but its nice to be able to start your car without this message popping up at you all the time.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.
From memory, if you set the TPMS system to off in the dash options display then it will cancel the alarms - sorry, I'm not anywhere near the car at the moment to check that. Did you have the TPMS valves fitted to your 22" rims? If so, there is a way for you to reset the system so that it will work properly, assuming all TPMS sensors are working. I found the how to on this site, from a post by crowman40. If you didn't have them refitted, are they the black rubber stemmed ones or the metal stemmed ones? If they are metal stemmed ones, if you want to sell them, let me know. At lesat one of mine is faulty.
Here's the relearn procedure. I tried it, and found that you need to let a fair bit of air out of the tyres, sometimes for more than 8 seconds, so do it at a service station with a working tyre pump! Also, all four sensors have to be relearned. If one fails, the whole relearn procedure will fail and you'll still have your fault appearing. The owner's manual says that the system doesn't monitor pressures until the car is driven at more than 30kph from memory, so you won't know if it's worked 100% until you go for a drive after the relearn.
the TPMS matching process is
1. set the parking brake.
2.Turn the ignition switch to ON with engine OFF.
3.Press and hold the Remote Keyless Entry [RKE] transmitters lock and unlock buttons at the same time, for about five seconds to start the TPMS learn mode. The horn churps two times indicating the TPMS receiver is ready and in learn mode.
4.Start allways with the passenger side front tyre [ L/H front for AUS]. The L/H side front indicator lamp also comes on to indicate that corners sensor is ready to be learned.
5. Remove the valve cap from the tyres valve stem
. Activate the TPMS sensor by decreasing or increasing the tyres air pressure for about eight seconds. The horn churps one time to confirm the sensor identification code has been matched to the tyre/wheel position.
6.The L/H side front indicator turns off and the R/H side front indicator lamp comes on to indicate that corners sensor is ready to be learned.Proceed to the R/H side front tyre and repeat the Step 5.
7.The R/H side front indicator lamp turns off and the R/H side rear indicator lamp comes on to indicate that corners sensor is ready to be learned.Proceed to the R/H side rear tyre and repeat the procedure in step 5.
8.The R/H rear side indicator turns off and the L/H side rear indicator lamp comes on to indicate that corners sensor is ready to be learned.Proceed to the L/H side rear tyre, and repeat the procedure in Step 5.
9. After the L/H side rear TPMS sensor has been learned the horn chirps two times. The L/H side rear indicator lamp turns off and the TPMS sensor matching process is done.Turn the ignition switch OFF .
If no tyres are learned after entering the TPMS learn mode, or if communication with the receiver stops, or if the time limit has expired, turn the ignition switch to Off and start over , beginningwith Step 2.
10.. Set all four tyres to the recommended air pressure level.
11.. PUT the valve caps back on the valve stems.
