I have had 3 ve ss commodores all have had between 9 and 10 litres per 100ks on highway driving at 110 from brand new.i have just bought a ssv redline ute and the economy is 12l per 100ks at 110 it is shocking (only use 98 fuel) anyone else have the same problem it should be better than a car i would have thought being lighter?
It isn't much lighter - only 40 or so kg in it. You'll probably find that the tray has some kind of negative aerodynamic contributing factor (based solely on failed high school physics). Having said that, mine does do better than 12 on the highway.
do you have a hard lid and what economy do you get
Soft tonneu - and not 100% sure what I get on the highway - but it's somewhere around the 10L/100 from memory.
I easily get 10L per 100 from my brand new Commodore SS Thunder auto
Give it a little more time to loosen up.. Having said that I use 12.7ltrs / 100klm around town and get 8.9 to 9.5ltrs / 100klm on the highway (Canb to Syd) doing 115kph.
bluessv do you have a hard lid
Nope just the soft cover....and that 10L is sort of worst case when I'm sitting on 120km/h in pretty crapy roads. If I drop to the speed limit and have some decent runs where the AFM kicks in it's more like 8.5L
I got 8.9L in my SIDI ute with tools on the highway with a hardlid and extra weight of staggered GTS wheels
I'm getting about 11.3L/100km with regular unleaded and 10.8L/100km with RON98 :P I do about a 30/70 split between hwy/city driving.
I know it's not a ute but my cammed ssv wagon gets under 9 on the freeway, with 22's, sound system, pram , baby, and 3 people in the car.
On caltex 98.
TELLING IT HOW IT IS SINCE 1982
New cars do take a while to adjust and settle down in regards to fuel consumtion, actually took my v6 10 000km or so
exactly right.... give it time.
by the time mine got to 15,000km, I had a 2L per 100km drop in fuel use from when I first bought it home.
engine and management needs time bud... it'll get better.
