Have a read of the thread on lifter rattle. There are some good videos posted in there. Have a listen and see if that is the sound you're talking about.

It could be lifter tick or injector pulse.. The fuel injectors are pretty noisy on these cars.

On the far side, you might have picked up on the engine life count down (or holdens). You have to guess when it goes off..!!!

Has it got extractors or the engine cover off, that seem to make the noise louder on mine.

Also mine had a cat gasket leak an sounded like a lifter, put your head under the car and get someone to give it a rev.

I also have a ticking noise on my MY10 sv6. Just about every VE I've test driven/walked past, has a ticking noise. Thing is, mine is much more noticeable, unless I'm paranoid. It's still under warranty, so I'll have to head to Holden I guess.

Yer they sound a bit like a meccano engine. They tick, rattle, fart & smell which is quiet normal for this dinosaur design. Its hard to tell if your noise "tick" is outside the normal realm. If its a constant tick noise over & above the normal racket then its worth getting it checked-out.

Dinosaur design alright, but cheap to fix and upgrade me thinks.

You wouldn't think so with all the sh!t I've had to put up with.

A basic rebuild on these engines will set you back around $4,000 and with no gaurentee that it will fix the issue either!. You can buy new 'COMPLETE' LS3 (current HSV engines) for under $7,000 fitted from some of the performance shops.

Mine has ticked forever & a day. I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong.. Had it serviced couple months ago & they never said anything needed any work.

I know that the purge solenoid ticks in my alloytec it might just be that.

What's the job of the purge hose and the purge solenoid anyway? Lol

Had mine checked other day, and was told it's normal too. Probably the only gripe I have with these cars so far.

Depending on how severe the tick is (could just be injector pulse that you are noticing) I would definately get it checked out.

An LS2 or LS3 shouldn't suffer from lifter rattle like the early L76/L98 6 litre.

    Same goes for the OP.

The HSV variant is different to the Holden variant and isn't plagued with issues.

I've had next to no issues with my car (apart from the freaking grinding sound it likes making when reversing in the morning) - the tick isn't that bad and only something that I notice (have turned the music down & asked passenger to listen.. they hear nothing. I'm just paranoid I think sometimes).

Maybe you forgot to take your Cartier watch out of the glovebox?

Lol. No, I'm more so thinking it's the 400 diamonds that hang from the rearview mirror.

since the new engine when in my injectors a quite loud now. Took it back to the dealer and they said they noticed the injectors noiser than normal. Didn't offer a fix though. They are the original injectors but were never that noisy.

Maybe they work it's just that the engine is quieter?... hehe

Anyone go a fix for noisy injectors? is it a lub issue or something else...

    Cheers
    Phil
