Has anyone gone to the trouble of putting a bonnet ornament on their VE?
Why, scream the purists?
Well, my wife is not the tallest gal on the planet so she struggles to see passed the front bumper. She's deliberately parking her SSV wagon tail-in because the rear view camera lets her get nice and close to the concrete walls /gardens / nose of other vehicles without hitting them.
This is not always convenient when trying to load a fortnights shopping or unloading my band gear.
She could limit herself to parallel street parking. I could send her to Russia and have her torso lengthened. I could mount a camera under the front grill. I could have sensors fitted to the front bumper, or, we could go 'old skool' and mount a bonnet emblem. We both agreed on the later.
There is a US company that makes one off bonnet ornaments for any make or model for around $80 to $100 greenbacks but you have to supply the ornament mechanism.
Has anybody investigate this option yet? What are the lessons learned.
Tried it, didn't work as couldn't quite see out the windscreen..

I think a camera mounted to the front bumper somewhere with a switch to turn it on and off when parking would probably be a better option, I don't think an emblem would be able to help with high concrete curbs and judging distance properly.
Emblem will last about 21 minutes till some tosser steals it
just get her to practice a few times with ur garage wall so she gets a feel for the distance, ie put a mark on the side wall at a set distance then drive up to it. I know some people who hang tennis balls from the roof so they know when to stop
thanks for the comments, although I might pass on subaru's optional extra. didn't consider the whole 'some wanker just nicked my bonnet emblem' scenario. that would definitely piss her off. The tennis ball from the roof in the garage is a great idea. Will investigate the whole day/night cam connected to the IQ system idea.
where can I buy one like this, and I wonder if I can get extra squirels?
Money is no object for perfection like this!
