    Default Plastic Enine Cover

i have a ve sv6 and was wondering if anyone had pulled their plastic engine cover off... I have just removed mine but when i did i noticed there is a whole lot of insulation underneath it ... i was wondering if the engine cover served any practical purpose (like protecting the bonnet paint) or if it was just to make the engine look neat

It's to keep noise down and make it a bit neater.

My cover was removed when I got my LPG conversion.
So I assume it isn't needed.

Has no benefit. i removed mine to release the hot air from the engine bay. you can also remove the plastic cover over the inlet manifold. will need to take of fuel rails to do so.

i pulled the cover off my VX ecotec, and noticed the temp dropped a full mark on the temp gauge. i put it back on coz i didnt believe it was the cover, and it went back up to where it was normally sitting. its been off ever since. no noticable increase in engine bay noise...

yes. but the cover (in my case) trapped the heat in the top end. and it benefitted from being removed. ran better, seemed to go better. and ran cooler.

I was always told it was there top reduce noise and also to help cool by channeling air around the bay...
