i have had 2 out 10 times. when in sports mode it sticks in a gear. most times 4th. this only happens when i floor it. seems going by the manual there is a reason for this
Performance Mode Lift Foot Mode
Within Sport Shift Mode there is
a further performance feature called
Performance Mode Lift Foot (PMLF)
Mode. The feature is activated
automatically when sports oriented
driving is detected, based on
cornering and on/off throttle
application. PMLF allows the
transmission to hold the current
gear instead of upshifting when the
throttle is lifted.
this is from the manual
cool thanks for info yeah i picked up my 06 calais v (auto) yesterday, and read this aswell.
I was wondering (dont think it warrants a new thread and sort of On topic) what people drive the 6 litres with generally? EG: i have only had for a day but am just using the normal shift, with the ESP thing on all the time, and just keeping in in drive.
The reason i ask is because i upgraded from a VY exec (V6) and was expecting a much bigger difference in power under my foot? im sorta abit 'let down' with how it just doesnt get up and go when i put my foot down, even in the sports mode. only becauuse theres so much more KW's i dont know where they are going !
still love the car and the purr and couple times i have got a shock when i put my foot down it really gets up and goes, but it seems to be depending on what gear the auto gearbox is in and torque etc not sure i dont know much about these things, but i want power to be there alwaysbtw my model does have the LSD also.
anyone got any advice?
if ur in the higher gears ur obviously no gonna get thrown back in ur seat when u put ur foot down. i drive around in sports shift, and knock it back a gear or 2 if i want to feel some g forces :P that puts a smile on my face. 2nd and 3rd r the money gears![]()
ahh ok cool thanks man
so you use sports shift and also the active select? i might try that out then
can you recommend any cheap but effective small performance mods i could do ?
cold air intake and a 2.5" catback exhaust, Xforce exhausts are pretty cheap. lots of ppl on this site seem to have them
if ur not willing to go that far, just get one or the other haha, theres been a couple of posts floating around lately saying that u get more from a good cold air intake than an exhaust change. im not sure, but the 6L respond really well to basic mods
I pretty much leave it in normal auto with ESP on driving to and from work. Sometimes I use active select to engine brake and when I actually want to go if I press the throttle, rather than waiting for several gear change downs before going anywhere fast. I turn ESP off when I want to take off quick as it seems to back off everything even if one wheel slips slightly. With it off it seems faster, maybe it's just the uninterrupted roar![]()
I have done a few tests with my G-force (1/4 mile) meter, sports mode and normal makes no difference from standing start incase anyone was wondering if it made a difference on 1/4 mile times
I use Normal mode as i found you can put ur foot down a bit further and accelerate well without jumping down a couple of gears and making your engine scream like it does in sports mode, you can still make it scream if you need it to by just putting it all the way to the floor (IMO thats the 6.0L fav rev range lol)
OK cool thanks for the replies guys i think i will try normal mode with the esp off, i think im going to be spending money on mods very soon ive got a taste of the power i just want more and more now
how mcuh roughly do you think even of those mods above might cost ?
