Default VE SIDI SV6 Gearbox Grinding......

    Hey Guys,

My car is my baby and i am definately no hoon i just like to cruise... but like every male i sometimes want use the full potential of my motor.

If for example i put my foot to the floor from 1st gear, when i make the change to 2nd it crunches........ so obviously i back off....... and then after the revs drop down it will go in ok....

I took my car for a drive last night and have learnt it is more likely to do this when i rev it right out over 5500rpm.

At first i did think it was my driving style however i have realised its not, i have had my father and close mate who are both very experienced drivers drive my car and experience the same thing....... i would have only gone flat out through the gears about 10 times of owning it (onto the freeway of course). and i have now done 19,000kms

It will still grind with double clutching as well. not as severely though.

If i take it to holden, do i have a leg to stand on?

of course you do. To me, letting the motor rev occasionally is not abuse. If it was a constant thing of bouncing off the limiter then I'd say Holden would probably laugh and send you on your way, but they allow the motor to rev to what they consider to be a safe level, and as such, should not affect the warranty of the vehicle. Definitely get it checked out - could be a case of an issue with the clutch - or it could be a faulty gearbox or a number of other issues. Best bet is to take it in to them and get them to look at it. If they can replicate the issue, then my guess is you'll not have too many issues with getting the source of the fault fixed or replaced - unless your car has some phantom gremlin that feeds on synchros - then it could be a long haul - but I haven't heard of that happening in the Aisin box as yet.

Same thing happens to me, you get use to it. Holden told me they couldn't find the problem in my SV6, said there was a problem in SOME v8's but wouldn't entertain the idea of it being in a v6.

Take technician for a spin and show him. And dont let them pull the "we arent insured for that" bullshit. You are the one driving, YOUR insurance covers you. Different story if they drive you want to come along though.
    Or get video footage.

If no love from normal dealer go to another one. If no love there, contact Head Office. You've got a brand new car bud, no way it should be crunching like that.

lachie mines the same.. i think it might just be the box.. dont think its got to the clutch because my origional and heavy duty did/do it.. (and my clutch fluid was changed 10k ago) i wont take mine to holden because ive got an aftermarket clutch and dont think theyd be too happy about that.. i got used to it aswell tbh.. but its pretty annoying when you cant find second.
