Default Pinky/ Red substance around hoses?

    Hi All,

I installed my OTR CAI on the weekend and while the engine cover was off i noticed some old 'substance' around some of the hoses.

It was really thick and to the point of being brittle now so obviously old and i have had NO real issues with the car ...

I cleaned it off to see if it happens again but didn't get any pictures. I've attached where it was (the hoses it was around)... didn't appear to be corrosive as where it had fallen i wiped it off and gave a good clean and no damage...

Slightly confused (the red circle i have used was roughly the same colour)

looks to be the coolant heater hoses that travel into the cabin

was it in a random spot on the hoses or over a join?

It looked like at one point it had come from around those clips I have circled - inbetween the silver clip where they join... yeah they are the heater hoses (checked earlier). Do you know what the stuff would be?

I had the same issue mate.It turned out to be an coolant leak ,one of the clamps broke or come lose. I just replaced and relocated the heater hoses with vb/vk v8 hoses (use x2 of the longer of the pair). No more clamps in the middle just one hose, plus it looks better.Heres a few pics, sorry there not great

Coolant is meant to be anti corrosive which is why they use inside your engine instead of water.

I had the same problem guys. I had to replace the top and bottom hoses and as soon as I did my AC worked again. I had it on cold but it blew hot air into cabin. It still worked on hot though. Cost me about $60 to have both hoses fitted.

I've got the same on my radiator hoses on the Alloytec. Kind of makes me wonder about the quality of the original hoses - but then again they have lasted nearly 160000 k's so who's complaining.

Coolant leaks at heater hoses are common, first try fitting worm drive clamps instead of the crimp style and if it still leaks fit new hoses.

The black plastic sections are quick release connectors.
    Silver Certified.
