A friends dad brought a 2008 HSV Maloo auto about two months ago and was over the moon until it started going into limp mode every couple of hundred kilometers, so he took it back to the R&B Smiths of Geelong (a HSV dealership) a few times and on the last they had it for nearly two weeks after which they returned the car and told the car had logged no codes and they could find no issues only to have it happen again so he had the contact details of the previous owner who told him the reason he sold the car was for that very same reason, he said it only started after they had changed the brakes.
So my questions are-
1. Anyone had any similar problems or ideas of what it might be?
2. why would a dealer be stupid enough to sell on a car with obvious problem?
I told him to take the car back and ask for the service logs to back up the previous owners claims then call Holden head office, if he didn't get a satisfactory outcome to call consumer affairs.
If they can't fix the problem that they knew about he should be entitled to a refund.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
what is limp mode?
Puts the car into a limited power state which will allow you to "limp home" to a dealer
ah, i can see how that would become annoying....do all VE's have this?
Never had it happen to mine (has had the CONTACT SERVICE) but apparently it does.

i would check the brake lines and plumbing.. might be a 'dent' in the line.. so when he brakes the ecu might pick it up as a abs fault and kick it into limp...???
a long shot.. but quite possible
what part of the brakes was "replaced" and why?
Maybe the previous owner did not disclose the issue when he sold it.
Cant blame the dealer if they didnt know about it

I'll find what part if the brakes.
As for the dealer not knowing, it was brought and traded at the same dealer so if what the original owner says is true I'd say they'd remember a car with ongoing troubles.

You think the service department talk to the valuers and sales people every time they have a problem car?
