It can be done - just depends on how DIY you are.... Im not so I had mine put in for me but it works well (worked well in my VE) and now in the WK

Dont quote me but its something about running a line convertor from your stock amp into your new amp and then to the new sub... Install in the VE is also easy because the battery is in the boot... I disconnected the stock subs so as not to ruin them but leave the units in so it looks stock / no holes

See how you go, maybe flick D3CID3R a pm, he knows much more about it....

Let me know how you go

He has an SV6, so he wouldn't have a stock amp.

So that should be a line convertor from your stock HEADUNIT to your new amp...

You can use a line out converter, or purchase an amp with speaker level inputs.

I have done it on my 07 sv6.
The hardest part was running the wiring from the rear doors to the boot,
But apart from that it is simple.
Rear door speaker wires to the boot, (left the rear speakers connected)
Wires into a line out converter, converter cost about $30, than connected my amp.
battery is easy to access for power and I used the 12v plug in glovebox for remote.
I mounted my amp to the under side of my parcel shelf.
    I think that's everything.

allright what i have done is removed the kick panel on the side of the headunit console (drivers side) i had to find a diagram to tell me what wires were for what speakers... i spliced into front left, front right, rear left, rear right i ran wires from there under the floor all the way to my boot from there i had to connect them to line converters to go into the amp. i could have gone straight from the doors but i didnt want to run 2 new sets of wires (1 pair to run to the amp as line in and a return from the amps to speakers) threw that little rubber tube (which is difficult to get 1 pair through) setting up the amp is easy enuff cos gotta love the batter in the boot positive to positive ground to the neg and ur remote to ur ciggarette lighter. but just as ur setting up subs id still look for the wires in the side of the headunit cos it is so much easier to hide 4 wires under carpet or under side panels and what not. can post a pic of the wires ur looking for if u wish just pm me or something but i cant tell u what was what it was a bit of guess and check system to find out which wires were for which speaker but i can for sure tell u exactly what wires ur looking for.

    hope this helps a little

Nah didn't bother about reconnecting them back up just soldered new wires to the headunit wires. If I sell mine speaker amp is going with it. N I didn't want live wires going my doors as I didn't rip the old wires out just left them there and ran better quality threw the doors fr the amp. Also I have a 2nd batter in the boot it is behind the amps on the left hand side of that pic. Will post a pic of the wiring to the headunit tomorrow to give u an idea of which wires to go off.

U surely can. Depending on the size of the amps u may need a 2nd battery or an upgraded main battery I'm pushing 1479 watts and I couldn't run it at max without my 2nd battery.

So the standard head unit is powerful enough to handle a couple of subs off of a LOC?

^^ It's the amps that "handle" the subs.

The head unit merely provides the signal to the amps (via a LOC in this case)..

I'm considering doing this. Would anyone recommend a speaker upgrade as well? If I did that I'd probably just do the four 6" ones in the doors and leave the tweeters and center speaker in the dash.

How about a sound processor, if say you were going for 6.5" splits, 6" 2 way rears and a sub (4ch and a mono)
    Do they make much difference?

I just tapped off the rear left door, u can access the wires where the door hinges are. Straight into the high in on the amp. It was good at the beginning, but now a year later the main speakers have had it so to say, sounds all distorted.

With 4 speakers and 1 sub, no. Spend the extra money if you want to, on better speakers themselves. I have been recommended focal splits for VE's.

so what is the best way to keep the speaker working that you tap off? a split to the speaker and the LOC? justwondering about halving the signal is that a problem?

I taped into my rear door speakers. I left them connected and just ran an extra wire to my LOC. I've had no drama
