Just after your thoughts on the redlines? Thinking of trading my 08 SSV Ute in on one of these. Worth it?

Mate personallly, your only paying for the brakes. Because those rims look horrible. Depending on the price difference, ur paying for the beautiful huge brembos

Yeah, look I will probably be flamed for this. And I'm not dissing anybody for buying one.

But for the money at present on a Series 2, I just dont see the advantage. The only reason I could see it being an advantage is if you get a really good deal on one. The brakes, as said are what you are paying for IMO. But in saying that, its only fronts........

If you can get a good deal on a Redline though, I reckon you could do just as well on a standard SS/SSV. Then put whatever rims on you like and get a brake upgrade as well.

    Hey mate,

I asked the same question before I bought my car. I was looking as a redline ssv but ended up with a normal ssv. With the redline the exterior chrome window trim doesn't look good on all the colours & the wheels are ghastly.

I plan on eventually doing a brake upgrade, but for everyday driving the stock brakes are fine on a normal ss or ssv.

yeah i have been offered a brand new SSV Redline Ute for $39990 with 20" chrome shadow fluxus wheels. they are alot nicer than the standard rims. as well as a twin hump hard cover. i cant really knock that offer especially with the 3 year warranty offered as mine is now out of warranty.

Love the fluxus wheels (better than the super sports) sounds like a good deal.

That's a pretty good price..depends on weather you will be taking it to the track or
Not, the redline brake package is not bad for street and occasional track day.

Don't forget your looking at 4+ grand for a full aftermarket brake kit, which in most cases is prob not needed..

I got the 2010 SSV redline ute and absolutely love it...

If the question is SSV verses Redline then I dont have an answer. We bought a redline, not because of the added features but because we hated the look of the HSV G8 and loved the look of the VE, especially the mags and the shape of the sportwagon. The Redline's price was a bargain too. $57K for the sportwagon with a vented bonnet, DVD, tow bar, Car bra, roof racks, 35% tinted windows, push button starter and a moon roof. All we added was a full KPM system. Perhaps in 30 years or so a limited edition redline might be more desirable than the garden variety SSV with a few mods that has been thrasted by a handful of yobbo owners during its brief life. Dont know and wont be alive long enough to find out.

I think the brakes are terribly bad and need changing. Driving a VE s/wagon and sometimes it really is an effort to pull up

How fast do you drive???? VE Commodore brakes are perfectly adequate for normal road driving. I've even taken spirited drives down the Kangaroo Valley (Nowra) towing a boat and they didn't have a hint of fade.

Thanks for all your input guys. i know that a brembo brake system can be added to any standard SSV but i love the fact that i can finance them instead of forking out $3k for them. plus i hate driving a car that is out of warranty so its reassuring to have that too.

If i put a cat back system on the ute would that void the warranty?

    Thanks,

if the catback causes a prob then that prob will not be fixed under warranty. I had a full KPM exhaust sytem, otr and re-tune done at five hundred k's and not one prob.

I asked that question with holden and was told cat back only voids exhaust warranty nothing else..

You won't have any problems, I got a lukey stainless 2.5" cat back and am quite happy with it.. Not too loud, no drone at all and sounds great.

You'll love the ssv redline.. Shame all SS's don't come standard with the brembo's..

No there isnt a push button starter that is only in the GTS as far as i know. i think it should of been brought into the series II. its just another selling point. its pretty much pointless but some people love that shit.

Brad, are you able to post a few photos of you machine? I left a deposit on the redline today so delivery is saturday. just interested to see what you have done to yours as well as look at your exhaust.

    Thanks,

My view is this - look at the extras you get. Ugly wheels, FE3 (sedan only) and two brembo calipers. If you intend to change any of those, then not worth it. But if modding isn't your thing, then it's a good buy.

Won't u need to upgrade to a 3" exhaust as well?

Not a big increase overall according to capa.. Only 20 horsepower difference

I can live with that, considering the power increase the charger will make..

My 2.5" is so much quieter then the 3" ones I've heard.

Can always change later and sell my one.

I looked at one when they were selling off 2010 plates cheaper. Looked good value. The FE3 suspension is actually higher than the FE2 due to the stiffness. The sales guy wasnt sure if it would settle but he didnt seem to think so. I think that was a stuff up some how. Wheesl wise im not sure if I like them or not but it wouldnt be a deal breaker.
