Hi Guys,
Just a quick one in reagrds to the AFM in the auto V8's are you able to notice the change when it goes to 4cyl mode often? Reason i ask is most of the time its not to bad but there is the odd occassion where if im cruising at say 80km on a decent drive i can feel the vibration quite easily though the wheel which im not a fan of, also if its in 4cyl mode and u only apply light accelation mine seems to struggle in 4cyl till it changes to 8 cyl after a little bit. But the prob is i can feel all this through the wheel and even pedal sometimes. Dont know if im overthinking it but it didnt seem like this when i bought it new. its now done 11000km
how does yours go?
cheers

Cruzer, I occasionly feel the AFM transfer back from pansy mode to sweet mode under lightish accel. The only vibes I have noticed is what I explain as driveline or tailshaft speed vibes when I'm sitting at around 100-110K's. I haven't noticed anything through the pedals or wheel.
I would guess that engine vibes would vary slightly between engines due to the accuracy of the engine balance (factory tolerances) and also the sealing of the cylinder valves for each of the AFM cylinders.
Its a good theory when everything works correctly but in the real world, its just another thing to go wrong, I reckon!

AFM is a piece of shit to be honest. Purely a selling point from holden to get people to get into the v8 market. Go get a performance tune done, they will turn off your AFM, and you will see you will get even better milage.
oh, and I actually didnt notice any vibrations when it changed from 8 to 4cylinders. It was always fairly smooth and I never even noticed.
Very very true, good in principle lol So you dont notice anything while your in 4cyl mode cruising at any lower speeds? It doesnt seem to matter for mine 60 or 80 etc as soon as its settled in i can feel it pretty easily, nearly off-putting. Def wasn't like this from new but, trying to think what would cause this but????

I dont have the AFM in my series 1, however I used to own a Chrysler 300C which had it and NEVER felt a thing. It worked flawlessly and I got the thing down to 8.8L/100km in a 2.8T car!
Never feel it in mine. It switches back and forth all the time, I will admit there is a slight vibration (very very very tiny) noticeable at high speeds, but it really doesn't bother me.
I have just bought a bran new ssv ute with AFM, and so far the only time i notice it changing is if ya on a really smooth road and it gives ya a very small surge in power when going back to 8cyl mode, I actually think its kinda neat, but as for any fuel gains, I'm averaging about 11.5L but thats 80% highway driving I had a VZ V8 (exact same motor, manual 6speed) and it use to return about 12.5L.
I would expect it to maybe get a very small amount better as the motor and everything lossens up a bit, I have only done 3000k so far, i suppose over the life of the car that extra 1L would make a difference,,,,, but there big
V8's did we really buy them to worry about fuel consumption??
Something that is more annoying in the Series 2 is the Infotainment system doesnt have a display sleep function, even when it is off its still pretty bright; and thats with brightness turned right down....
Hi all.
Just got an ex demo ss with 3km on the clock and can barely notice the change from 4cyl to 8cyl.

Hey Bluesteele, what sort of $$$ Is a performance tune and what exactly does it do?
