Default anyone had same problem with there timing chain tripping error

i went to my mech and he told me the reason my dash was bringing up check engine was that my timing chain is stretched. he told me it a common problem on the 07 ve and sv6. its going to cost me $1600 to replace it. told me is a long job. day and bit . been to this guy for years. i do trust that what he told me is right. but is $1600 to much to replace the timing chain on a ve. he said when it get stretched it trips sensors and this is giving the error. i didnt actually see the error code on the machine. but will try to ask to see it before i drop car off on monday afternoon. anyone know if this is too much. or maybe a mech in south east in melbourne who can do this job for a lower price. was going to use the money for SSV tail lights. got the headlights. but now due to this problem have to use the money on this repair. so any member know of a good mech who is cheaper than $1600 and is in south east of melbourne side. as i live in hampton park area. one other thing anyone know the error code i should look for that means timing chain.. so i know what to see when i ask to see the error code he charged me $50 for the check. but i dont know if i should take it to holden. and pay $110 for check and they will remove the diag fee if i get the repair done there. i just want to know for sure it is the timing chain needs replacing and i am having to pay $1600 and 2 day job. unless someone knows a mech in SE who is good and do it lower price and wont rip me off..

    many thanks in advance.

Check for fault codes P0008, P0009, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, all relate to a correlation error between the cam postion and crank position due to elongation of the chain links.

Common problem for VZ, VE, Rodeo and Captiva running early Allotec engines.

Most workshops will charge close to what you've been quoted.

Factor in all seals, gaskets, chains (3 of them), possibly worns chain guides also, and around 6 to 8 hours labour depending on the mechanic.

mate use the search function for ve timing chain and you will find heaps of posts regarding the issue including prices for repairs even this one that is running today: Holden warranty coverage + Recall question

seems to cost between $1500 to $3000 to get it fixed depending on what parts get replaced and who does it,

    happy reading
