Hey all,
Soon i will be installing HID lights in my projectors and am just wondering where is the best place to mount those balky ballasts on a VE? in my case i need to mount 4 of them. Oh and what are people using to hold them in place?

have you purchased the hids yet?
if not i just purchased some off ebay with a built in ballast to the dust cap much easier to install and no messy wires also looks untouched under the bonnet
yer its a complete product let me find it :
HOLDEN VE COMMODORE HEADLIGHT H7 HID KIT SV6 SS SSV HSV | eBay
HID KIT FOR HOLDEN VE COMMODORE FOG LIGHTS SV6 SS SSV | eBay
the second one is for the foggies i just bought low beam and foggies from this seller and pretty happy with both of them so far and as said the fact that its plug and play and hidden after is what got my attention
Www.ezhid.com have 55w high beam in the same setup.
This is what it looks like installed

Not my pic, got sent to me from Len at ezhid.com.
I'm gunna do the upgrade ASAP though. Id assume a 55w is pretty darn bright!! I've seen them in spotlights, but that's a purpose built reflector. I'm thinking the standard high beam reflector will prob limit it a bit but will still be a helluva lot brighter than a standard halogen.
55w is off the chain mate, even in a reflector you will be blinding roos from 10km away lol, but be careful if you are running reflectors (not the SSV set up) you will also blind any oncoming traffic, so be quick to flick em back to your low beams

Yep deffo only a lonely country road high beam...just treat em like ya got spotties on the front
Yeah i been thinking of getting some off ebay also...... Plug n play is the way to go...
Ok boys this thread got a little off track, I have already got the lights coming in the mail. So.... any suggestions for ballast locations?

I fitted mine on the weekend and for a quick fix just cable tied them to other wiring harness at the front, can't really see where else to put them, but will look harder when i get time
TELLING IT HOW IT IS SINCE 1982
Are the HIDS built into the caps actually the same brightness as the separate ballasts? Are they just as good?
Thanks for bringing that up dingdong555 as they are not, unfortunately they are only 35watas a posed to the current HID people are installing at 55wat

well considering the ones i have with a seperate balast are 35 watt ... then they are equally as good i assume ... yes you can get the 55watt ... but in low beam thats just f'd up for other drivers
You won't be blinding anyone if you have projectorsassuming the projectors don't melt out lol

Hey dingdong555 flicking on and off still works coz the start up voltage is crazy high, ever see the amazing flash you get at the start?

Does anything in the engine bay area need to be taken off before any of these HID kits are installed? I'm really interested in the plug n play design.
Not really i installed 35w high beams a wile back and it is real simple even with out the "plug and play design"

The 35W ones with the cap ballasts are just as bright as the 35W ones with external ballasts. These are the standard wattage that people use. 55W is generally only used in the high beams, even if you have projectors, you should not put 55W in.
Flicking them on and off damages the bulbs. The high voltage spike at the start is to vapourise the salts in the COLD globe. If you turn them on when the salts are already vapourised it wears out the globes more quickly. But since you hardly use high beams the extra wear and tear from igniting the hot globes probably isn't an issue.
