    Default Engineering mode oil life

    Hey all, quick question:
In engineering mode there's a function 'oil life'
Is this an accurate measure? Reason I ask is: My car's clicked over 5k and had an oil change at 3k, but oil life states 32%.
I first engaged engineering mode about a week after the services and it stated 40%
    Sould I be worried?

Sounds like it was not reset when your oil was changed. Do you know how to reset this yourself?

I am not sure if the "Oil Life" function is purely counting the hours the engine is running or smart analysis of the quality of the oil and what you are subjecting it to

The Oil Life percentage reading is an algerithm messurement calculated on engine run time, rpm, etc etc....not completely accurate and not referred to in Australia. It would be reading low as it was not reset but....don't worry about it. It certainly does get its readings from analysis of oil.

I believe the procedure to reset the "Oil Life" is to press the accelerator to the floor completely and release. Do this 3 times in succession with ignition turned on and see if that works. Then it should reset and you have a starting figure to work with.

I believe its more a gimmick than a useful guide to follow. Just do the regular oil changes with good quality oil and don't be too concerned about the "Oil Life" readout.

yep.... doesnt actually test oil quality, just uses data from engine (run time, k's, revs, etc) to determine %. Dont rely on it, just rely on k's/time done like usual and you'll be fine.

The reset works on my 08 sportwagon, but it doesn't work on my 06 Caprice.

Anyone have any idea how to reset teh early VE 'oil life' readings?

It's a function that isnt used yet in Australia. I believe it's used over in the UAE.
