    Default LS3 cam upgrade

gday fellas i wanna get a camshaft upgrade for my LS3 in my 317 R8. some advice on wat type of cam to get and an explanation on wat all the ratios and digits mean would be awesome too. for example wat the hell does this mean 224 228 114. ive got a 3" exhaust on it now n soon to get 4 into 1 headers.
the cars driven everyday so a cam thats user friendly and not meant for full ball racing is preferable. Thanks!

mate VCM suite is down your way. Why not give them a go.is your clubby an auto or manual? most auto"s depending on how big the cam is need a hi stall converter etc..amongst other mods to make the box last.manuals are much easier to mod in this regard though.I could explain your numbers and what they mean, lift,duration,degrees.etc.. But IMO you would be better off talking to someone in person as it would be easier to explain. someone here might want to take the time to actually explain what it all means but it's a bit of a story but not complex. have a look at VCM"s website for example. all their cam pkg's are explained in a nutshell what they are capable of and they are very well respected for their tuning software.

the cam you described would be just about perfect for a daily driven manual i would think, 224/228 114.

If it isnt tuckin, it must be suckin

+1 here too. not too cranky (big) and well behaved around town with a nice lopey note at idle- thinking about something along those figures for mine too, bloody auto but (never again!)so will need a stally, bigger cooler, etc..

you would need to make sure you get a decent tune too, but yeah will still have that camshaft sound but wont ruin your driveability

oh ok cool kinda picked those figures up from some random performance website, lol yea i h8 auto, no offence guys. had another look around and came across these ones for the LS3...281/283 232/234, 281/283 228/230. wats the difference btn those two? also stage 2, 235/244 and 301/317 251/267?? which ones are the mild ones and which are the racier ones? i wanna noticeable barky uneven idle but yea obviously still street applicable.

Just curious whether you followed this through? I'm looking at heading down this route myself, was going to supercharge it but that's a little more than I can justify.

I must admit I know next to nothing about camshaft designs, especially with V8s, but a 227/242 camshaft sounds like it might be a FI design, whats the LSA on that?

If you can get away with it why not I'm looking for something a little on the mild side, last thing I need is the car to get done and head down to Regency which means it needs to come out again.

its LSA that generally determines the FI spec cams, higher duration on the exhaust side usually means its gonna rev far beyond the standard cam eg 7000+
