hey i have always been under the impression that as nankangs are really cheap ... they are also really shit ... as i now have to fork out over 450 for kumhos ... i am considering nankangs ... any ideas on what these are like ... the guy at the shop seemed to think they weren't as bad as everyone made out ... any help?
I run them on my s-pack and will soon be running them on my VX R8 clubby
For what you pay they are a awesome tire, that grip well in the wet and the dry and for the price you can not go wrong !
You can still get decent branded tyres for cheap. I picked up Hankook Ventus K104 Sports for $180ea fitted
Nankangs! My rear tyres are Nankangs: heaps of grip! Tread is nice and deep, and they don't seem to wear out very fast! I'd say do it.. But thats just me! Sometimes TyrePower have specials on Dunlop; buy 4 gets 25% off... Which is pretty damn good.
I run Nankangs on my bug. 145's are crap. I have read good things about their performance tyres. Currently running Nexens on the VS and they are of similar price and quality I think. Been happy with them so far.
top of the range nakangs are pretty good for thier price. although if i were to buy a cheaper tyre i would most definately buy maxxis.
I would never buy maxxis again after they lasted 15k on my wife's aurion
Nangkang NS2's are really good budget tyre I had them on my VY SS 18's lasted 35k
I've used ns2's on a rx7 & gtr with good results. Would def consider them when the ssv needs new tyres
I had Nankangs on the SS when I first got it.. for a budget tyre they are ok - Don't even ask about grip though, mine didnt grip in the dry so it was a pain in the arse to drive in the wet... and before anyone tries to state what they think is obvious, no I don't drive like a tool...
When I replaced them I went back to Bridgestones.... Not always cheap but if you look around you will find a good deal. The guy I went through wanted $490 per tyre and I ended getting them for $315 each with free fitting/balance/alignment...
Cheers

Dont be a jew when it comes to tyres, they are what keep you on the road and pull you up when braking.
Also dont think that just because you get a lot of kms out of a tyre then they are great, generally shit tyres get high kms because they have a super hard compound which means stuff all grip. Super grippy tyres have low mileage because of the soft compound.
You need to find a happy medium. Ive tried a lot of midrange brands and found maxxis to be excellent in handling (minimal sidewall flex) and traction. Very good in wet and dry.
Silver Certified.
I picked up Kumo KU31's (235 R19) for $650 delivered to my door. Ive done 10k on them and so far very happy with them
ive heard a lot of people say they are shit but they have always been people who have never run them.
i had them on my falcon and i couldnt fault them for the price, ill probably get them for my SS.
What a load of rubbish. I've run them. The're shit. If you rate them as a good tyre then obviously you have never run good tires. /thread.Originally Posted by DM 55 WA;1941678[B

Anyone tried Rotalla's? As some of you may know I have a tyre hop issue with Tri-ace tyres and the guy said I can change them for Rotalla's. What do you think?
I've got Nankangs on both my VN wags and the Jeep Cherokee. They're ok on VN, can't complain too much. But I don't like them on the Jeep. Handle atrociously at 'normal' pressures. I have to run them at 50 psi to get half decent handling on the highway. And both sets pick up rocks/stones something shocking!!!
cheers
Lol - you are defending them with the clear perception they are good things. You say those who say they are rubbish have never run them - well in your world that may be the case but take it from one who has well over a million km of driving on good/bad/average tyres - they are crap! 1st hand experience. For the price, they are black, most of them are round and hold the wheels up off the ground. That is all. Their grip is woeful in either wet or dry condtions. Plenty of other tires in a similar category.

I am not an expert but had Nankangs on the SSV when I got it and hated them.
Wet grip cornering not particularly good and under load when taking big sweeping bends at a reasonable speed they were all over the place.
Damn things lasted forever though so in the end I sold them to a ricer for drifting tyres.
If you are not pushing them they are OK for running around town and will last a long time but if you are a bit heavy footed or spend a lot of time on the open road spend some money and get something better.
Softer compound more grippy tyres won't last as long but they will keep you on the road when it counts.
Just my 2c worth, You can debate tyres all day and everyone will have different views.
With tyres you get what you pay for. Cheap tyres often last ages but don't grip and are noisy.
There are far worse tyres than nankangs. Wanli, triangle, kingstar etc
I try to stick with the brands that have been around forever. Goodyear, bridgestone etc but you pay for it. Although you put slot of trust in them sticking, particularly if you drive your car hard.
There is a tredwear number on all tyres this gives an indication of how soft the compound is. From memory about 250 is a good balance of grip and life expectancy. (retailers often don't tell you about this or know anything about it I've found)
As has been discussed many times before. Check the load rating against your cars minimum before you buy. Commys are heavy and often cheap tyres have low load ratings.
yeah i have considered all of this about cheap tyres not being grippy before i posted the thread ... and although there is some good testimonials up here i think i will just suck it up and buy good ones ... anyone got any advice on a tyre that wont wear out as quick as toyos ... cause i have always bought toyo's ... but because they are so soft and i drive my car hard (understatement) they wear out quickly .... advice?
