Thumbs down Exhaust Falling Apart :(

Just a question i have a 2007 SV6...and after coming home from a long trip i noticed out of the left side exhaust tip what looked to be a blond wig stuffed in my tip...after pulling it out i realized it seems to be fiber glass since my hands go all itchy....as I'm pretty sure my engine doesn't eat blonde women would it be safe to say the rear left muffler is falling apart in side or the center/cats etc....it is an aftermarket exhaust i had put on it custom made at my local shop so its not xforce etc...it's probably been over a year since i had it done would it be worth going back to the shop about it????

yep, definately,it sounds like the baffle has come away that runs thru the muffler. grab a torch and have a look up the pipe you'll soon see if thats the case
im out of my mind at the moment...please leave a message

Its just the insulation inside the rear can. I doubt the internal structure is letting go (seeing is should be welded metal) however it seems odd to have the fiberglass wadding make its way out the exhaust tips, then again stranger things have happend... Do you notice any difference to the sound of the rear muffler?, like droning or a ratterling sound.

In the end if the exhaust is only 12months old take it back and get them to check it out.

I'd be putting the factory mufflers back on soon. If it is blocking the exhaust gasses from escaping it could cause you some problems.

this might damage ur engine or just un bolt the end mufflers off and see whether it goes deeper than that

yep, stuffing coming out of the pipe tells me two things.... poor manufacture quality and more restricted air flow because baffle isnt in place properly.
if you havent got stock mufflers anymore, I'd be going back to place that sold you this custom crap and asking them to replace/repair it. failing that, buying BETTER QUALITY mufflers from elsewhere.
but definitely remove this crap. looks shait, is shait, and isnt doing your car's fuel economy any favours.

A mate had the same thing happen to his VX SS was the stock exhaust but was eight years old when it happened. Is you car on gas because it looks like a lot of moisture has been building up in your exhaust system, so I'd be pulling it all apart and checking the whole system.

Only seen this happen once. Turned out it was thanks to him letting his kid wash his car and fill the cans up with water each week by stuffing the hose in there. nice.

I wash mine a lot also - you'd need to be pretty reckless to fill the cans up.. Just don't angle the hose into the pipes on a VE and you should be fine.

The mufflers should have a 2 year warranty, if not, then they were poor quality to begin with. You should only have to pay for the labour to have them replaced.
