Furniture removalist might be the safest, but not cheapest.
So long as your items are well wrapped/protected, i'd look into a transport company myself,[general freight] hundreds of them around, a lot of them are always looking to make up back loads from up north, and it should be a lot less than $600.00.
But just ring a few up, say what ya want, find out how much space your items are going to take up, e.g., one pallet, two pallets etc, and get some quotes, and you might have an option of paying a bit extra for insurance in case of damages etc, or that might already be covered.
I've never been poor, just broke

google e-go.com.au I have used them before, they are reasonable and do online quotes.
recline the driver/ passenger seats too and interlock them if they are going on a pallet.

Agree with this, there are many drivers/companies looking for backloads to justify their trips and this is were you can get a good deal and also insurance at a good rate.
IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.... STILL WAITING LOL
