Just wondering what KM are on VE V6's out there and if anyone has one with high KM on it and what kind of problems (if any) have they encountered? Does it still drive well, steering suspension etc..
I ask this because I'm considering keeping my Omega for many years, I love the car. I have no doubts that when looked after I shouldn't have any dramas with the engine up to 300,000km but I'm more so worried about the electrical side of things.. computers and gadgets.. LCD screens.. that kind of deal.
Mine only has 88,000km and it's 4 y/o, still flawless mechanically but it is meticulously maintained too.
mine has done 116K and no problem until about a month ago where I'm getting some sort of shake/shutter between 1st and 2nd in my auto only after about 10 minutes or so of driving (guess somethings warmed up or flexes). Holden says the can't reproduce fault so I'm going there on Tuesday to prove to them there is a problem. I'll keep you updated. Other than that it's still in excellent condition and really good to drive after it hits 2nd.
My old omega had 147k and only problems I had ( owned scince 70k ) was the ac would not blow air in 40 degree heat dunno what the problem was but they fixed it
and the auto box under light acceleration (1st to 2nd) would hang around in 1st for a bit before it decided to jurk you into 2nd Holden could not replicate the problem this piss me off so much I bought a manual but not the only reason![]()
the omega taxi i was in the other week had close to 500thousand, and it seemed to drive quite well, the engine was quiet, just a rattle from the antenna
The Mad Dutchman
Wow yeah Taxi's rake em up.. every time I get an omega taxi they have the display on digital speedo. I sometimes get the "flaring" between gear changes in the auto mainly between 2nd and 3rd, much more noticable since I have a louder exhaust. I'm just hoping it doesn't cause a drama with the box any time soon. My last car was a 98 magna V6 auto that sometimes flared between changes and its got 300k on it now and still runs well so im hoping for the same luck with my omega.
I'm up to about 160 K. All goes well just the nasty tyre wear pee's me off. Could do with some new shocks and a set of pads soon but i'm happy cos i''l be glad to get rid of the standard rubbish and wack in something decent.
Nice.. so far I'm very happy with my tyre wear, only minor extra wear on the insides but still done 50k on my 19" front set with more than legal tread to go. I think my suspension is a bit noisier than it should be mainly on the passenger side, which i think i'll go and see a suspension shop about. Still on the original brake pads @ 88k which seems exceptionally good as I am not always easy on it
Auto flare is common. It shits me to tears, my tuner has worked at mine but it's always going to be there to a certain degree
I've seen earlier model commodores go 500000kms with only minor f like dash bulbs going and headlining falling off haha
taxi's are a bit differant though, because there pretty much constantly running its better for them
171K and going up at 1K p.w.
no real issue other than front struts replaced due to leak and usual error codes.
still on original pads and discs.
major consumables are tyres, oil, filters, plugs, battery & fuel.
Original pads and discs.. that's doing well! Occasionally, maybe once every 2 months mine beeps and pops up with the "Stability Control Off" for like half a second then disappears.. doesn't log a code or anything, Holden only narrowed it down to an insignificant glitch in the cluster.
My mate has an SV6 and a couple of pixels (barely noticeable) have failed in the radio LCD display.. hoping this doesn't happen to me, and in particular with the trip computer display. I know clusters that have had a lot of use can become dull but I guess globes can be replaced. But if that happens I guess it would be a good excuse to upgrade to a higher model cluster lol
My '07 Lumina has 130,000 on the clock.
No problems...yet.
I bought it at 110k
Converted to LPG @ 120,000
I've got a 2006 WM Caprice with 217,000 on the clock - ex chauffeur car. When I bought it, it had an intermittent fault code for the throttle position sensor, which used to affect gear changes, especially on light throttle. I replaced the throttle body/TPS unit ($300 brand new from EBAY vs $480 from Holden), and it's been fine so far. It also had a failed tyre pressure sensor, which I replaced, and no further problems with that system. Dashboard displays and DVD monitors all work OK. The only thing I've noticed is that the steering wheel 'trip' button doesn't always work (ie every now and then press it, and nothing happens - press again, and it works), and the power window switches can sometimes stick "ON" - tap them, and they go back to the neutral position. All in all, for the KM travelled, the car is in very good condition, and drives well. Engine is smooth, and still very economical. Everything still works. Prior to this car, I had a VY 25th Anniversary which we racked up 175,000 km on with very few problems, and before that, a VP Calais which we got to 360,000 km with very few problems before upgrading it.
If you've owned your car from new and look after it, it should last you well.
105k up for a water pump
07 VE SV6
Mods: K&N high flow air filter in box, x-force 2.25" cat back system
Sound System: Alpine type r fronts and rears, 2x Alpine type r 12" sub, Boss audio 1500 watt mono Amp, Kicker 450.1 Amp
That's good to know. I've now got a knocking noise in the passenger suspension, sounds like something is loose, even small bumps it's fairly noticable so I'll have it checked monday. I'll see how long my trip button lasts lol, I frequently change the display so it gets a lot of use.
50k on 19's is pretty good. Who does your wheel alignment and is it standard or have you got some extra camber or anything ? I get the extra wear on the outside of the rears which is weird, cos its not like i hang the tail out all the time, i drive on straight roads most of the time. Its still doing the same thing after a 4 wheel alignment too.
Mine has had it clock wound back by the dealership ( Currently dealing with them) But its actual ks are looking at almost 300,000 and its going OKISH it has had two Transmittion rebuilds on it, but that was due to doing 300,000kms in 4 years. Overall a strong car though from what i have found, That is flying blind and only knowing how the car has been treated for the last couple of months.
I haven't actually had a wheel alignment since I bought the car, when I bought it the dealer had the new wheels & tyres fitted and am assuming an alignment at the same time. Assuming I don't have any premature wear between now and when I get new tyres I should get abour 65,000km legally out of the front set, fingers crossed. I'm going to get the front suspension looked at soon though and probably a wheel alignment at the same time, seeing how it hasn't been done for 50,000km. If I had the money spare I know I'd be giving the factory springs and shocks the flick
Two tranny rebuilds in that many km? Wow that seems rather odd (to me anyway).. from my experiences I'd expect to get far more mileage out of a gearbox in a car that was being used much more frequently and (guessing) having done a lot of highway km rather than stop-start in town driving or possibly it's been mistreated/neglected maintenance-wise.. but I'm certainly hoping that if I keep the car that I can get up to 300,000km on the original box without major dramas.
225,000 on my 06 statesman, some buttons are sticky but everything works. Engine is smooth and quiet. The 5 speed likes to hunt for gears at low speeds but doesn't seem to flare/slip. Original shocks were soft but that's expected.
The car was a private hire car.
