    Default Ve diff gearing

hey guys I've got a ve omega and was looking at changing the gear ratio

I was under the impression 3.45s would be good but after speaking to a guy at a diff shop he said 3.27s would be better as mine is an auto?

any guys out there running these set-ups? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

3.45's will give you better power off the line but cut some km off your top speed, basically 3.45 are the manual diff gears are a great way to change the way your car drives just remeber to check your speedo after you changes diff gears as it will be out

2.92 to say 3.45 shortens up the changes. I went from a 2.92 single spinner to 3.27 lsd and the difference was amazing, transformed the car to drive imo.

yeah it something like 3.08 3.27 3.45 3.73 4.11 there the most common you'll see the smaller your diff gear the more acceleration down low but you'll loose top speed and rev higher on the open road

Better off to replace the whole diff, one good secondhand diff will set you back around $600-$700.
Holmart have them new for $1500

hey guys, anyone have any knowledge on an omega running 4:11?
a mate offered me 4:11 gears, free of charge, which i dont really mind, but i dont want to spend the time putting them in and realising theyre not what i want, or gonna top me out at 100km/h
anyone care to share their opinion?
    cheers

    I paid $350 for 3:45's from a UV SS, you'd need 2 find a SS manual diff

The HIGHER the number the quicker you accelerate, and the lower your top speed is.

Ie 3.46 will accelerate faster than 3.27, but will have a lower top speed.

    Default lower top speed

I think v8 ve commodores auto or manual can do over 200km/h. All Have 6 gears so a bit less top speed would not be a problem. My issues would be how many more l/100 in fuel would it use.If changed to say 4.11 gears and how quick would it be 0 to 100 and over 400m than standard 2.92 auto diff.

chalk and cheese. The torque gains are massive. 2.92 diff is shizen

    2.92 -> 4.11 is a massive jump. I'd look for some 3.46's.

yes forgot to mention, 4.11 would be far to much for an auto. 3.7 max. 3.45 best all round performance

And what about the fuel consumption??? through the roof? I know...if we were worried about fuel usage, we would not get V8s! but have to ask with the carbon tax and all! hahahahaha

Sorry to pop out of nowhere. Lol, but I must ask this.
What do you mean when you say the top speed is lower???
Let's say I'm driving @ 100km/h with 4:11 what physical feel difference will it have to driving at the same speed on stock 2.92???

    Cheers
    Dave.

Your engine will be revving higher. With 4:11 your engine will be doing say 2200rpm as opposed to 1600rpm with 2:92 at 100kph.

the easiest way to explain it other than what has already been said is say a gear ratio is 3.45, that means the gear ratio is actually 3.45:1 for every 3.45 rotations of the tailshaft is 1 rotation of the wheels
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
