hey boys
just wondering are they cheap for a reason
I would love some xa coilovers, but dunno if it's really worth the money
if I end up going king springs I wanted to go lows in the front and load carrying super lows in the rear
does anyone have this set up?
and would you have to run load carrying ones in the fronts aswell?
cheers
I have king springs in both my cars an i will highly recommend em, in saying that tho, make ensure you get some good quality shocks.
I have excel's in the vn an they are a little rough,, in the vt i have boge shocks an its lower then the vn but it rides 100 times better.
edit: This is just from my personal experience

They are inexpensive, not cheap. All comes down to production costs, coil springs are not that much to make, so they don't cost that much to buy.
You don't need the HD for the fronts.
If you like, I can send you a set of Kings for $360 shipped to your door.
absolutely nothing wrong with the current range of Kings. As above, leave the HD springs out of the front.
i had one of my rear SSSL's collaps a bit last year, i ended up buying new SSL's which had my rear guards sitting level with the tyre after they sagged a bit over the next few weeks, but ive noticed the last few weeks (almost a year after installing them) that the guards now sit level with the rim :-S like they sagged another inch or so :-/ anyone had these problems before?
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Cheap compared to what? If you translate Kings dollars to Euro, you'll be able to buy Eibach/HR etc. in Europe for the same money.
Kings are a VERY high quality item. They're the OEM supplier to DMS and MCA coilovers (easily the two most reputable brands of Australian made competition suspension) as well as having just won the prestigious Pikes Peak with Monster Tajima (of Suzuki Sport fame). And Monster has a lot of choices for springs and still chose to purchase springs halfway across the globe...
The best thing the Subaru World Rally team did before they pulled out of the WRC was switch to Kings. Also since they recently switched to the new steel (and ditched their Australia steel supplier, of known fame) they're springs are EASILY a match for the likes of Eibach etc in terms of wind quality and resistance to sag, the later of which carries a lifetime warranty against happening.
The only people who like to bag Kings are:
- Importers of more expensive brand springs...
- People who run them with OEM/flogged out/standard/cheap shocks, which aren't capable of controlling a higher rate premium spring
- Those that really don't have a clue, or like to jump on band wagons
Fit them to a quality high end shock (ie. Koni or Bilstein) and they're brilliant. You won't find an owner of a Bilstein/Kings combo that has a bad word to say about them... But plenty of people that dump their car on 20 year old flogged out factory shocks will give their opinion!
Kings to suit VE are $135 per pair front or rear. Kings and Bilstein B8's to suit VE are $1588. To go up from that, you'd be looking at $3-4k on something like DMS coilovers. There isn't a sub $3k coilover that will outperform a Bilstein B8 and Kings Combo!

What's everyone got against Pedders? I've only been to a Pedders place once, but I'd say I'll be going back. They were the only place who seemed to actually know what they were doing and did a good job. I guess it varies from shop to shop...
Although he did try and tell me that Pedders springs were much better than Kings which I didn't agree with, and that if I wanna change my shocks I should definitely use Pedders shocks. Can't blame him for trying to sell his companies products though.
I'm running kings in my car and they've been good. SSSL front and SSL rear with stock shocks. I'm gonna save up the money to do shocks though which will hopefully make it better again.

Vr Series 2 V8 Ute. Restoring to standard height (boring, i know!) whilst it is a daily driver. Want to make it as smooth and practical as possible. Currently sits 7cm off ground at lowest point so I will retain the current springs / shocks for when it is retired to an unregistered project.

Does that mean to get the Bilstein B8's alone will be $1318? Maths genius I knowOriginally Posted by gslrallysport
Plus getting them fitted. Definitely adds up lol... although if I'm gonna do shocks down the track might as well do a good job of it.
Does anybody know if King Springs come in blue?
The only reason I am asking is because I asked to have King Springs fitted at Jax Quick Fit and they are blue. I thought King Springs for a sedan commodore only come in yellow. I just want to be sure I got Kings?
Does anybody know any manufacturers that make blue springs, just in case if there not Kings?
I'm pretty sure all Lovells springs are blue. And yeah, Kings are yellow.
There should also be a part number on the spring itself, but you probably can't read that now.
