Hey everyone,
I have done a few searches on this topic but haven't really found the answer I have been looking for. I've been contemplating this for a while now and wanted to know whether it was worth it and also which product to use. There is a few different products on the market and Dynamat seems to be the clear winner but I have also found on ebay a product called Sound Deadening Mat which looks the same. A little cheaper to Dynamat but not much.
I suppose my question is firstly has anyone used this product, and what other products have been used? Do people normally do both skins of the doors?
To be honest I'm probably only going to upgrade my speakers in the future so I'm not going for any professional set up here. No amps or subs just some nice sound.
DOES SOUND DEADENING MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE????????
Cheers,

This is the product on ebay
SOUND DEADENER MAT - CAR AUDIO DEADENING (Dynamat type) | eBay
From what i've heard the stuff on ebay is horrid and not worth putting in, If you do a search there are a few guys trying to get a group buy together group buy. the dynamat is great stuff and is well worth it but i dont know how much difference it will make if your not doing alot.
I assume someone will be here shortly to give you some more facts.
Jaycar have some also in different specs. I think you would have to uuse it fairly strategically and a reasonable amount to make much difference though. I just put it behind my door speakers to deaden the sound a bit.
I probably should have added that I am only looking at doing the doors only. So my question would be would just doing the doors make any difference?
because this isn't just VE related, you might get more responses if you ask in the audio section. doing a google search on "is dynamatting doors worth it" brings up quite a few pages from different forums, and the general consensus is that it is worth it. i still think getting an amp will make all that hard work pay off more (and drive those new speakers much better), but i reckon it's a great place to start.
Maybe I'll dynamat the doors myself and see how that turns out. Then maybe get some prices on new speakers and amp and look at my options from there. If amping it isn't going to cost that much more maybe I should do it.
Off subject a little bit but I just rang a local car audio place and they quoted me around $1200 for speaker upgrade and amp (Alpine I believe). $900 if I want to go Clarion. Still a bit more than I wanted to spend. Anyway, he also said that I shouldn't bother with the Dynamat unless I am getting subs.
You're not far from Caringbah... Might be worth going to see FHRX Studios. They're very knowledgeable but also aren't the cheapest place around.

Actually, the giant military reserve makes it a 50 minute trip :/
Yeah, gotta go around that
It's safe to say that I won't be taking it there for any audio equipment put it that way![]()
I have a full stereo installed in my car, i have all Alpine Type R Gear Splits, Coaxials and twin 12" Subs, With PDX Amps
I also have a PXA-H800 Digital Audio Processor installed, all before i had the sound deadening installed, and i can tell you for a fact the Dynamat made the biggest difference, it has allowed the clarity of the notes Type R's to really come to life, my car sounds amazing, i can show you if you like.
The rattles are nothing 99% gone, my sunroof very slightly on full volume, (which is unbearable to listen to for extended periods)..
Its the best value for money upgrade by far once you have installed good quality speakers and subs installed. If you dont have good gear, the dynamatting will expose this cos you will hear the distortion in the speakers.
Dynamat gets my vote! i paid $320 for a bulk pack, which included installation everywhere they could apply it in my car.
Thanks for the info LachieSV6.......sounds like it's worth doing.
Yeh mate really is, it would be great if you could sit in a car with it so you can notice the difference, thats what i did with my mates Calais V Wagon he had his fitted first, i was cautious like you, but after hearing his, then hearing mine now i wish i had it done when i got the stereo installed 11 months ago!
Dw about ur doors mate it's all the plastic inside ur car as in front side air bags I get a huge rattle from plastic there and also at the rear of the car. Other then just plastics bouncing around the ve's don't really need it
