Default Vinyl wrap for door/dash strips

I've been looking at getting some 3M vinyl wrap to do my ugly arsed fake woodgrain door and dash strips. Any suggestions on colours? Carbon fibre is a bit of a wank in my car (as it looks like a pensioners mobile) so I was thinking brushed silver or similar..? Has anyone done this and if so, share pics and tips.

I bought a small sheet to practice on my old steering wheel cover (carbon fiber, although I have nonintention of using it).

Actually, I just thought that matte black could look the goods. Thoughts and criticisms anyone?

Not on me, no. I'm having lunch at work just killing time. You might be able to find a generic picture online somewhere. I have the dark leather with shit fake woodgrain. Only the Statesman has woodgrain, the Caprice has silver. I'd put Caprice strips in but I've never found a set for sale.

matte black would work, or satin silver - even the champagne colour of your paint - There's also a carbon print that isn't the weave, but layered (not describing it well) - read Zonda R. To pull off the stainless look, you'd need to carry the theme right through the car or it will look out of place.

I actually agree with the stainless look come to think about it. I was going to get the strips painted to suit the car but I'd it looked shit it's not a quick fix.

Another question, how do the strips come off? Are they just held on by clips or do I need to take the dash apart to get to them?

I just had another brain wave… I've got east enough carbon on the way for my old steering wheel. I might use the left overs to do my Makita work radio haha. I'll be the sickest mofo on site!

Not sure how they come off on the stato - probably unclip like the rest of the VE parts!

i'd post pic directly, but new forum picture posting thing is crap to use.

had a quick look online for woodgrain ones to see what you have, but couldnt see one. plenty of silvers and blacks.

I did think about it but for the price of wrap (i could probably do the whole car for 60 bucks) as opposed to professional painting I'd rather do the wrap cos if it looks crap I can peel it off with next to nothing wasted.

ive been waiting to do this to my trims for awhile now too, im just a lazy prick....

anyway, it depends what sort of look you want in there, i reakon gloss black would look nice, matte would not suite.

as for the anodised/brushed look, it would have to be a dark tone, and as mentioned carried through everywhere... or maybe a metallic? theres alot of satin finishes in there, so a slight metallic might look good (keeping in mind metallic vinyls are not in your face metallics, nice subtle metallics)

    my 2cents

I think Satin black. Not too crazy but subtle enough to be different....

Also, Where did you get the vinyl from? how much? size?
Im looking around for gloss/satin black but can only find carbon fibre on ebay

The Caprice trim is actually real aluminium (in the series 1 at least...)

i agree the woodgrain looks 'dated', but i reckon if you go brushed silver or matt black you are just making it look like other ve dashes. if you're going to go to the trouble of getting those suckers off and changing colours, i reckon something different to what can be seen on other ve's is the way to go. gloss black, gloss gunmetal... the gloss still keeps the same classy theme of the interior without the woodgrain colour.

black wheels, black tint, grey interior? need some black in there. high gloss piano black. different, but not in your face. any light colour (like matching the headlining) is going to stand out too much, and matt finishes wont stand out enough and just blend in with the rest of the dash. my 2c anyway.
