Hey there guys,
Ive got a New Series 2 SSV manual ute and im just wondering why the AFM is only in the automatic models (which mine obviously isnt)??? Just curious really as i cant really work it out....
cheers
Because the transition from normal mode to economy mode and back can be absorbed by the auto trans whereas in a manual setup it would be quite rough and feel like an issue with the car.
Thats what I was told anyways...
Silver Certified.
The official Holden version is because they source engines from the US and they don't have a manual version. There are mechanical differences in the AFM engine meaning the development of a manual would take a few boffins who are currently dedicated to making fuel efficient 1 cylinder hyper cars.
Personally, wouldn't stress about no AFM - without it, you don't have to worry about having it turned off when you realise it's rubbish.
Do a google search on it - the reviews range from poor to average. The best description is that it has potential.
In the Series 2 Commodores the motors are identical whether manual or auto. The correct reason is as suggested at the start...the auto absorbs the vibrations caused by the motor transitioning between V8 and V4 mode
The worst part of the AFM is the "eco hippy" badges.

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Anybody want to buy some "eco hippy" badges.![]()
.
I like my eco hippy badge, but then again I also liked Tears For Fears and chrome bumpers so I guess my opinion shouldn't really count.
