Default Fuel Consumption - VE 6L Auto (Non AFM)

    Hey guys,

Im fairly new to the forum and I have been doing some reading an a fair few topics.

I decided to cast out for suggestions as Im a little stuck at the moment....

So I recently bought a Calais V 60th 6L, auto non AFM. Before I purchased the car I knew that the 6L motor is not the most economical and took it on the chin. I personally think my fuel consumption is rediculous...

I havent conducted the test mentioned in other posts about filling up the exact same amount of litres at the exact same bowser.... My average fuel consumption floats around 21L per 100k's and thats driving like a grandpa in light traffic. I have changed two oxygen senors (after cat), new spark plugs (genuine), major service, new top gun leads and STILL it has not changed. This is frustrating me as my dads old landcruisers did better =/

I have taken the car to two performance shops and they have come back advising the car is perfect. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

    Thanks Kosta

Are you sure the trip computer readout is correct?? Have you tried filling the car and watching the odometer and calculating how much fuel your actually using. Also have you checked your brakes to see if they're rubbing on the discs , and if not maybe get the tranny checked and serviced .

Are you carrying around heaps of wait in the car ?

Is the car tuned , is it running shorter diff gears ?

    Hi Allistaire,

I know that all trip computers in any car are never 100% accurate but 21L /100k's is scary. I watch the fuel needle drop significantly every time I drive even a short distance...

Brakes are pefect and where checked last saturday when the car was serviced. Also I did a complete service of the auto including genuine gearbox filter. Not carrying any weight around although I've read that Calais are just a little heavier than the SS's.

The car is stock apart from some stainless rear mufflers and HID lights. Software checked and its been updated to the latest from the dealership.

mum has the exact same car and it definitely isnt that bad, on freeways we sat on 110 and got 10L/100k, and around town (fairly inner city) it sat at around 16L/100k i think

If it's a bad traffic with your average speed under 30km/h than it sounds about right !

they go through petrol like there is no tomorrow at slow speeds in crap traffic !

21L per 100 is weird. Maybe your temp sensor is shot and telling the computer that the engine is cold producing a rich mixture.

Next time you fill-up (which should be often!!) take note of the litres and then reset your trip to zero and then drive a 100 K's and then refill. Just a quick way to double check.

My wagon averages 14.4 per 100 in stop/start traffic. Average speed of 30K's. Normally when I fill-up it takes about 63 Ltrs and get about 440-470 K's from the 63 Ltrs. Pretty close to a V6...

I get 13-14L/100km... That was the same before and after full exhaust, CAI, tune, cam and 3.45 diff. My average speed is around 50km/h usually though with a bit of open road driving and a bit of traffic. Sometimes it gets up to 15L/100km when I drive a bit harder during the week.

Either you have an issue or low average speed, like Xonar said.

Thanks guys. I had taken it to LSX Tuning in Marrickville Sydney where Girch had spent some time and couldnt find anything wrong. I drive in moderate to light traffic and let it pick its own momentum on take off instead of juicing the accelerator ... So I will check the temp sensor, all 02 sensors again (im sure these fellas are the cause), and coil packs. It has to be something simple...
