Does anyone know why genuine Holden air filter for VE is so expensive compared to previous models !?
I was quoted $56 for it !
Inflation?
Thats because Holden are crooks. I bought a set of standard front pads for my VY and cost $95. One year later, bought the same set of pads but they wanted $153. I told them that a year ago I paid $95 and they didnt believe me. Surely they couldnt have had a 50% price increase. Showed them my receipt a few days later and they were very suprised. Gave them to me for $120. Still a Rip off. If you can, try to buy as much as you can off Ebay. Much much cheaper. Mention that to a Holden Spare Parts dealer (They Hate Ebay)
If they want that much get a K&N Filter, cost me $80 from Ebay

I paid $56 for a VE Filter from Bursons. Sounds like the usual price. It's probably because VE use that cotton filter type instead of the paper filter.
Yours Kindly,
Jim
Bgi Boss can you put up a link of the ebay place you go it for $80. cheers
No problems mate

Check out my VE Commodore My Omega Mods
cheers and ill have a look at your thread, as its for a v6 as well.
My mechanic used an aftermarket ( think it is Ryco ) air filter and only charged me about $30. Have a look around at Supercheap and Repco. God knows if its as good as genuine or not.
i'll stick to genuine while under warranty
later on i'd be happy to get K&N, Ryco, Lukey...whatever
Ouch, that sounds nasty. I'm sure there are good aftermarket brands as well as bad ones, the hardest thing is telling the difference without a vacuum gauge or something.
Ryco advertise that they test everything to meet or exceed manufacturers specs so i hope they aren't bullshitting.
I had a washable Lukey on my VS. Not sure if they make them for the VE yet ? The VE filter does look kinda different and a bit fancy !!
trade from holden are $33.50 or $27.95 for a delco one if you can get trade off them, even cheaper if your in there trade club. prices excluding tax.

there's nothing wrong with ryco, By the sounds of it they just filter a bit too good!
yeah maybe the Ryco one needs a few speed holes in it. Does anyone know if Lukey makes filters for the VE ?
I was trying to search that today and googled Lukey.com OMG it nearly burn't my eyeballs.
If you add the .au you get the right site, but my computer won't open PDF's atm.![]()
Holden's price mark-up are a disgrace.
Example: Chrome mirror covers: Circa AUD130-150.00 from Holden. USD60-70.00 from Ebay in the US.
Don't even get me started on the pricing differential of the VE here as to the G8 in the States (yes I know they were priced for a larger, more competitive market, but it still ticks me off).
Go with a K&N as suggested. Grab a cleaning kit for AUD30.00 too and you won't have to buy a air filter for many, many years. A good investment.
Front wheel drive cars are the work of the Devil.
Mine is 3.6 sidi too. Ill pm you
Just don't over oil the K&N filters. Too much oil can clog sensors.
You can't remove too much oil when you service them.
