Hi. Hoping someone may be able to shed some light on an odd issue thats popped up today. After stopping and turning the car off, the engine keeps running and accelerating. Turning ignition on and off a couple of times eventually shut it off but it happened twice on a short trip to the shops and back.
Aside from looking like a wanker revving the crap out of my car, i hate to think what would happen if i left it in gear.
I found this post VZ Phantom!!! from a user with similar problem with a VZ but unresolved. Replacing ECU didnt resolve.
Any one else seen this and had any luck resolving without Holden relieving you of a months pay?
Cheers,
Scott
Is it under warranty? If so you should have it flat towed at the dealers expense. Sounds nasty. I would have it looked at pronto though.
Old cars going back to the 50s and before would do that. The trick was to open the throttle fully as you turned the key off to let a rush of cool air into the cylinders. Revving was the worst thing you could do.
These days cars shut down because everything shuts off. Or in theory they should.
Should have said, but it's a '06 with 130,000 on the clock so no warranty left unfortunately.
I thought I should finish off this thread in case someone else has this issue. Basically I "found" the solution when I lost my keys. When driving the car with the spare key which we've never used before, it's fine. Go figure. Will be interesting to see if the problem returns if/when I find the other key. These are the old solid (not flip out) key with the lock/unlock and boot release buttons. I wasn't aware they had a transponder or any such thing that could cause this sort of issue so maybe just a coincidence it stopped when I started using the new key...?
At any rate, I'm happy but hoping I don't lose the last key.
Check the intake manifold for any oil because that creates a thing called run-on which has the exact symptoms you described..
