Default VE Calais Head Lights Faulty

Today I had a weird fault occur with my calais.
The lights whether they turn on auto or I select it manually. The headlights wont turn on.
Every other lighting function works ie Fog/park/beam and tail lights.
Both front head lights wont turn on so I imagine its an electrical problem.

Im not sure if this is an issue with the VE's.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Also check for faulty headlight relay /s. They are in the big fuse box r/f under bonnet I think.

    I had a look today,
There's no fuse I take it for the headlights and only the relay?
How do I tell if the relay is faulty?
There isnt another relay of the same type to swap it with to test.

Pull it out and gently shake it up to your ear.... If you hear anything then the relay is gone

Ive just checked the fuses out,
Theres none in the passenger side footwell and looked back at the main fuses under the bonnet.
Theres a fuse for left and right low beam light F10 & F12 from memory.
    They are both fine.
I rechecked the Relay, I pulled it out and its not making any sort of rattle when shaked
I did notice though when I put it back in that it seems to be working fine.
I can hear the relay click on and off when I turn the lights on and off. So now that has me stumped.
    Fuses fine, Relay fine.
    What next?

Could have blown both globes at once, rare but not impossible.

Im pretty sure Ive sensed a slight burning smell come from under the dash area. How would I take the dash apart to have a look at wiring. Not that I know what to look for as such.
