Has anyone seen or know where I can find a car ( I think it was a VE SS ) that has the back rear
diffuser painted.
I seen a white car with just the bottom strip on the rear diffuser painted white somewhere but can't find it again and I really liked it and am thinking of do it myself.
street commodores issue no 182 has a ve ss built by rdp motorsport that has all the black exterior parts painted white to match including the diffuser. try searching for pictures of it.
I know a guy who had a white VE SS and upgraded to the G8 Diffuser and painted whole thing white. Looked great but I reckon the white is the only colour that could pull it off. That's just a personal opinion
I was thinking about it (still am) but seeing as im going for the green and black theme, i think it would look better black!
Bonners you should try a green rear diffuser? Photoshop it first.
Those with painted diffusers, post pics here!! - Pontiac G8 Forum: G8 Forums - G8Board.com
On this forum there are few different colourd one, white, red and some other wired thing, check it out.
As I said, I think the white is the only one that pulls it off well. Just my opinion though
As for mine mate. No, it wont be painted green but I am thinking of painting it. You know how the diffuser, the grille, the foglight surrounds never look clean even after a bath. I am thinking of painting the diffuser matte black and then see if it is easier to keep clean. Will then move onto those other items when I am happy with the result. Will keep that updated in the 'my ride' thread of my car
Oh yeah, in the link above that i posted, one of the guys painted his GLOSS black. I understand what you mean and am keen to see how it turns out.
Yeah saw that but problem with gloss black that close to the phantom kind makes it look fake. If you do it matte, there is a big difference between the two. Again, personal opinion but my 'themes' seem to be working so far.... lol
So far every little decision you have made, i think suits 100% and i love it. So im sure if you say Matte then matte it is![]()
It will be easier to keep the plastic clean than matte paint. Hit it with a strong mix of APC and let it soak for a little then attack it with a brush and a pressure cleaner. It'll clean the plastic up every time. Once it's clean, you can treat it with some 303 protectant every couple of weeks to help keep things from sticking. Also, every time you wash it, just get a soft brush into all the honeycomb and grooves and such and it will stop the build up of grime.
Mate, I know you certainly would know the tricks but I just think the plastic ALWAYS looks dirty. I just feel with a painted surfce it might be easier to clean with normal car cleaning stuff.
And APC?
All Purpose Cleaner - or general purpose cleaner - works like a degreaser essentially. The good thing about the unpainted plastic is you can get away with using harsher chemicals than you would with a painted surface, so they're easier to clean. Autoglym's PM3 (from CCP) is very good. A 4:1 mix with water should clean the plastic up really well. Just don't let it dry on the surface. You'll have the same issues trying to keep matte paint clean as you do with the unpainted plastic - except you won't be able to be as rough with it.
I was thinking about this the other day but hadn't seen it done before. The red looks ok i think, but i do like the white! It would be tricky to match the paint though would it not?
same issue really - you'd be looking at gloss and clear to make an impact. Even then, grit will still cling to the inside of any honeycomb - still need to work at it with a soft brush. Plus, the other thing is, you'll need to do something to protect it other than a quick spray and wipe of protectant.
actually.. I have an idea... pm sent.
Get it professionally painted with a matte clear coat bonners. Because matte black spraycan tends to be very weak and also porous.
It would be applied with heat (if done properly) so it would conform to the shape - not sure how that would go with a textured finish like carbon - but they heat wrap whole cars with vinyl - so can't see it being too big of a deal.
I dont mean to be abrubt but I do know how it works as I have used it. But the rear diffuser is a very very complex shape.
If I had an installer say they could do it then I would get it done
I think it could be done Bonners, the vinyl rap people are crazy like that. I was talking to one of them a wile back and he was planning to rap a motorbike helmet!! so a G8 diffuser should be simple in comparison.
Check out my VE Commodore My Omega Mods
I still can't find that car that I was looking for,
I think it was on the street commodore site and I don't have issue 182 and can't look it up.
I have photo shopped what it looked like onto my car to show you what I'm talking about.
Have you seen the car I'm thinking of
What do you guys think about just painting the lip and bottom of diffuser
