Hi everyone,
Im kinda new to the forums, but enjoying every minute of reading and learning on it.
Just a quick question regarding the Auto Transmission Sport button.
What Auto Transmissions / models had this feature.
Also, I have noted on some models, when this button is pressed, the Cluster LCD will display the current gear position the auto transmission has selected. (EG instead of showing D for drive, the LCD will display S1, S2, S3, etc).
On other models, pressing the Sport button will display SPT ON at the bottom of the LCD, but will only show D.
Does anyone know if it is only the HSV models that have the S1, S2, S3 display when Sport mode is on, or do other model have this feature as well ?
Models that have the A5 and A6 have that sport mode. So omega doesnt have them because there A4 ( I could be wrong, if so please someone correct me)
So i have a SV6 non sidi, so its A5, then SIDI came and they were A6 also the V8 are A6 so calais would be A6 on there V8 and im not sure about the calais V6?
Basically A5/6 means that you can shift it to 5 speed gears or 6 speed. A4 is those straight up and down ones you find in older commodores and the omegas atm which you cant change gears like triptonic. There gears go P R N D 3 2 1 OR P R N D 2 1 or whatever where as the A5/6 P R N D then you push left for sport then up and down for manuel
You're corrected Hussy. My '08 MY09 Omega has Sport Mode Button, makes a big difference in tight windy hills.
My '09 3.6 International has it. Normally leave it off, but very handy on country roads when passing. Does make a big difference.
Button? What do you mean BUTTON? Dont you slap it left and it goes into sport mode? Could you take a picture mate. Also does it just say S on dash or does it actually show gears aswell.
Sorry guys, i thought they didnt have it. My badd
my VS had a button.
But now as hussy said, just slap it left and dont touch for sport or tap up or down for manual...
Dont know bout you guys but when I want to go sports mode im always stationary then flick it over and then take off, I remember someone telling me its not good for the auto to change modes from drive to sports and vise versa while in motion. Correct me anyone if this is not true... Also I find when the car feels sluggish through the gears in drive I have it in sports for a few days and it runs nicer.
Im intrested to see if this is true. Ethier way i just use manual ALL THE TIME. i start the car, before i leave i just tap it into manual. Ive got that use to that even after i reverse and im tryna park or somthing, i go manual. Biggest mistake of my life would be buying an auto car.
Thanks for the quick replies everyone !!!!
Here is a picture of the Sport Button on a Calais (Same as what I have). Its the button on the right.
If I throw the gear lever to the manual mode, then the Auto will not automatically change up. It will sit in the current gear unless I manually select a higher gear.
(I haven't tried bouncing it off the red line, for obvious reasons, so I dont know if it may EVENTUALLY change up gears).
It automatically changes down gears (I.E. If I brake from 70Kms, and have the gear set to 6th, then it will drop down gears until it drops down to first gear at 0km/hr).
As for the Dash display, On my Calais Cluster, when the Sport Button was pressed, the the Sport gear animation would display, and the bottom of the display would only show D (Regardless of what gear the car was in), and the cluster would show SPT ON....
I now have a HSV cluster fitted, and When the Sport button is pressed, the Sport Gear Animation Shows, and then the Gear Position is always shown (as S1, S2, ect), instead of just D. The HSV Cluster does not show SPT ON at the bottom of the display.
Hard to explain, but I will take a picture of this when I can.
When the Gear lever is moved to the left, the calais cluster would show what gear you are in, only when you changed gears.
The HSV cluster shows the same thing as the calais cluster, but also shows M1, M2 etc at the bottom of the LCD screen as well.....
I was just wondering what other models had this, as I had an Omega cluster behave exactly the same as the HSV cluster ????
Cheers and thanks again !
The SV6 has it.
If i just pull the leaver to D there is no constant display of D only when i first select it.
Though when i push it left i get the S1 S2 S3 and so on, then i tap it and i get my M1 M2 M3.
I hope thats what you ment ?
On the International (SIDI version with new gearbox), flicking over gearstick puts it in sport mode (no button).
Gears are listed as S1, S2, S3 etc under digital speedo readout. Gear changes happen later in rev range when accelerating, and when braking gears are selected earlier to keep revs up. Definitely makes a difference, but fuel economy changes too.
The second you touch it for a manual change up or down, it changes to manual mode.... gears listed as M1, M2, M3.
In both modes, gear selection is constantly displayed under digital speedo readout.
No button.... which I'd rather anyway. If I want to quickly get into sports mode, dont want to be farting about looking for a button to press (and turning off stability control or something accidently).
WOW mate i didnt know they had the button. On mine all i have is traction control (SV6) button. Also when im manual it does let you redline, but it doesnt let you, for example at 100ks drop down to 1st. (u wouldnt want to anyone but just saying) I think to drop down into first, max is like 70
My 07 omega has the sports button next to the traction control button. The gears sit P R N D 3 2 1 in a line, no push to the side, and on the LCD screen it just says D whether in sports or not and if in sports says SPT ON
Wow, thanks for the replies everyone !
It looks like Holden went soft for the Calais models, by not displaying the S1, S2, S3, S4, in sport mode, and M1, M2, M3, M4 in manual mode.
I dont know why they did things the way they did with the Calais dash, but I much prefer the way things are displayed for all the other models.
I also agree with most of the people on here, the Sport button kinda doesnt make sense.
Flicking the ever to Auto mode should be the same as pressing the Sport button, And if you choose a gear, then it should go to manual mode.
I guess the early models got the Sport button, and Holden realised this later on, and change the way things worked later on.
Cheers, and thankyou for al the replies.
