    Default VE Diesel conversion

I am hoping to buy a VE from the auctions and convert it to a diesel, possibly from an Astra or Cruze diesel wreck. Opel did a diesel Omega, originally with the diesel from a Peugeot 505 and later from GM design. Anybody seen this done before?

Youre taking a diesel from a small front wheel drive car to power a large rear wheel drive car?

Why? It will be underpowered, uneconomical and a complete pain in the ass to engineer.

You would probably be better off just buying a 300c, Merc or BWM diesel or even better just stick you VE on gas.
But would be interesting to see none the less.

Assuming its for economy - If you want a VE go and buy a VE and convert to gas if your that bothered but fuel isn't exactly bank breaking.

If you want a diesel go and buy a diesel.

Its not just slapping in a new engine and computer, you'll be changing everything, and since its such a small and underpowered engine in a large car, youll end up using more fuel as youll have the pedal welded to the floor trying to go 60kph

while you're at the auction, see if there's any SIDI 3.0 litre (2009+) on the block: I'm very happy with mine, and it's very economical.
I have nothing against deisel, but I can't imagine that the conversion which you have in mind would be worth the effort.

This honestly reminds me of the front pages of car magazines where they actually print ridiculous letters of ridiculous questions and/or ideas. Sorry no offense, but really? You are seriously considering that? At the moment Australia is going through a construction boom building LNG plants all over the place, the reason many company's are spending big bucks(the job I'm on at the moment is a 50 billion dollar build) now is to sell the LNG at todays prices, because in 10 years time there will be so many offshore wells and LNG plants that LNG prices will be a lot less. So converting to LPI would be the way to go for the future. However having said that, I am thinking of buying a Bugatti veyron, and putting the whole running gear in my split screen Kombi, does anyone think this will work? wiiiizzzzzzzzz out the line goes..............

By everything I think he means engine, gearbox, wiring harness, fuel system, computer/ecu/bcm, custom engine mounts, custom exhaust, custom cooling system... anyone else care to throw in some more? Not to mention it would all need to be fully tested and engineered. I'd figure the total cost over and above the purchase price of the car to be about 20K or more.

Dont know where you hatched this crazy plan. Assuming it can be done, it would be a horrendously expensive way to create a very slow car that guzzled fuel. Before you try to reinvent the wheel, ask yourself if maybe it's round for a reason.....

I think buy a car for what ever reason, but if you want fuel economy buy a car that offers that. Most people on here are car enthusiasts, and like modifying cars, but the only modification that I ever made to a car to save money, was on my last car. It was a mazda3 SP-23, I bought it new in 2004, and traded it on the SS-V Redline Sportwagon, my modifications in the 6 years I had it were modifications to my modifying process, I did no modifications, I drove it hard, it was beautiful and did it's job, I rung its neck and it never let me down, not a squeak, rattle, or issue. Its sound system was miles above the VE SS-V Redline 6 years later. I loved the car, never had it serviced, changed the oil once myself, it did 46000km before I traded it for 14000 grand on the SS-V. That thought process over 6 years, the car cost me $55 dollars a week to own, given that I can't count rego or insurance or tyres or fuel as any car would have used them. I bought the SS-V have already done OTR, KPM catback, and tune will be done on friday......But this car I love, and have wanted....this is a Car, a car to love not just drive, otherwise who in there right mind buys a 6L? or any modern muscle car?
