Hey,
I thought with all the individual thread relating to rattles it would be good to have a singular thread for reference.
just post your rattle and how it was resolved.
lets try not post questions but stick to answers.
One from me.
LOCATION: front right wheel
WHEN: on bumpy roads
REASON: stone stuck against brake heat shield.
IS THIS YOUS? tap the shield with your hand if it starts vibrating and rattling your on the money.
LOCATION: The whole fkn interior
WHEN: All the time
REASON: Car lowered
EASIEST WAY TO FIX: Punch interior and turn up radio
LOCATION: Interior (it's everywhere)
WHEN: All the time
REASON: Shit Quality, Poor Made
EASIEST WAY TO FIX: Sell it.
LOCATION: Rear Boot
WHEN: When subs were on
REASON: Spare tyre wasnt in properly
EASIEST WAY TO FIX IT: Remove tyre and put every part in again but more firmer
LOCATION: Below steering somewhere
WHEN: When driving on bumpy road
REASON: Cause it can
EASIEST WAY TO FIX: Find smooth road, but still looking, so turn up radio and ignore
I've never been poor, just broke
LOCATION: Everywhere - but particularly right next to my head somewhere in the B Pillar (well that's what's annoying me at the moment) - and the dash. All of it.
WHEN: Constantly
REASON: Just another fine example of holden's billion dollars of development being let down by cost cutting in production
EASIEST WAY TO FIX: Agree with selling it.
Just look at that supercheap ad, where the guy finds a couple of spare screws in the ash tray. That'll solve everything!
Never argue with idiots. They will only bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
LOCATION: Rear foot wells
WHEN: Constantly
REASON: To many Red Bull cans
EASIEST WAY TO FIX IT: Get a louder exhaust
Check out my VE Commodore My Omega Mods
Not a VE, but still...
LOCATION: Where the dash fascia meets the A pillar
WHEN: Most of the time, bumpy roads more so
REASON: NFI, sounds like there is a bird stuck it my dash (squeaking noise)
EASIEST WAY TO FIX IT: Plant foot for exhaust noise, turn up stereo, hitting the dash fixed it for a couple of days once...then it came back, drive the Beamer when I can be bothered...
Never encountered another commodore with this problem, even a VE, I guess its not really a rattle, possibly more annoying though
LOCATION: nowhere
WHEN: never
REASON: NFI...maybe just a good'un is my wagon
EASIEST WAY TO FIX IT: why..?? 60,000km and its still quiet !![]()
Smitty...with the VE SSv SII Sportswagon, VK race car and...Kwaka ZX12R
LOCATION: Passenger door pocket
WHEN: On bumpy Brisbane roads
REASON: Was probably built on a Friday
EASIEST WAY TO FIX IT: Complain to dealer, when they say they can't replicate it or find a cause just put something heavy in the door pocket until next service.

'11 VEII SV6 Thunder Ute
Location - Sunroof
When - slight bump in road
reason - sounds like glass rattling against solid surface as opposed to rubber as it should
Fix - off to the dealer tomorrow to get this & a creaking drivers seat checked out
LOCATION - Sunglass holder
WHEN - Trying to avoid small pot holes and find yourself in larger pot holes
REASON - Put sunglasses in sunglass holder
FIX - Take sunglasses out of sunglass holder and or drive with sunglass holder down.
Note it has been replaced once by Holden and was great for about 3 months now is slowly coming back. Apart from that no other rattles yet.
LOCATION - Front Suspension, low down metallic banging noise
WHEN - whenever you hit bumps and potholes
REASON - Original Sway bar D Bushes were shyte
FIX - Replace them yourself. Holden has released an improved bush design and costs peanuts.
LOCATION - left of steering wheel somewhere
WHEN - whenever you drive on bumpy roads
REASON - bonnet leaver rattling around
FIX - put thick foam tape between the leaver arm and the panel to make a more snug fit.
Took car to dealer for rattling sunroof prob & creaking drivers seat , lubricated all of the moving parts on the seat (fortunately did'nt stink it out) - prob solved...for now , told if it creaking comes back seat base will have to be replaced ,as for the sunroof apparently the rubbers were dry???? lubed them up & so far so good .
LOCATION -Front right hand side wheel arch.
WHEN - whenever I turned right.
REASON - Loose bolt in steering.
FIX - Only turn left. Or take it to your mechanic if you need right turns, was done in 20 mins.
LOCATION -Driver door
WHEN - Rougher roads
REASON - Loose door cable
FIX - Cable put back in clip by Holden at last service.
LOCATION - Sun glass holder
WHEN - Rougher roads again
REASON - No idea, even open and without sunglasses it still vibrates
FIX - Will let you know, possibly something under those little rubber bungs holding it to the roof
VE SS Ute '10
LOCATION - Rattle noise under car near passenger side like a metal tube inside another one (unable to determine if front or back due, but think front left)
WHEN - Over small bumps in the road. Unable to replicate issue, just happens all the time
REASON - F knows. Been back to holden 3 times. First time holden couldn't hear it. Second time metal bracket under tranmission had spaces inserted. 3rd time (yesterday) had left bonnet hinge adjusted as it 'may' have been hitting plenium. Also had pedders independant check done which returned nothing but split exhaust mount which I replaced.
FIX - Again, F knows. Have been advised D link bushes checked...
LOCATION -Driver door or seat
WHEN - Turning corners
REASON - Require lubrication somewhere
FIX - Was supose to have been greased so i'm told, but still there
If the above ever get resolved, i'll edit this post. Hopfully when I get coilover put in in the coming weeks, a decent suspension joint might determine the under body noise.

Thanks for the tip, but my front end rattle went away after I binned the stock suspension with h&r coilovers
Well done glad it worked out.
