    Default Car Value

Hi guys, I've had the thought today of possibly selling my car to help buy my first house sometime within the next year.

I was just wondering what peoples opinions on what I could possibly ask for it. I don't really WANT to sell it as I love the car but I think it might be a smart move... so I don't wanna sell it on the cheap.

    It's a 2007 VE SV6
    - Manual
    - Ignition colour
    - 80,000km
    - 20" GTS replica rims with good tread (< 5000km on them)
    - Airhammer CAI
    - Mace Manifold Isulators
    - Bench tune done
    - Lowered on kings springs
    - Redback rear mufflers
    - SSV tail lights

Some of those mods won't mean stuff all for the value, but I have spent a fair bit on it.

Would $25k be asking too much?

    Thanks guys

Hey mate being 2007 and having 80 000ks on it, i really dought you would get it for that price. But not far off it. Maybe 18-25K u might get. depending ofcourse. I would try and sell the car stock then sell the other bits seperatly. But have a look on carsales for the same year as yours , same Ks and see how much they are gong for

i had a igniton 07 sv6 auto but had 98,000kswhich i tradded in at 19.5 for my current atmoic sv6 ( but that was dealer and they tend to take less)

EDIT: just been looking at carsales and it seems you can sell it for around 22-23

Mate i would just put the car as it is onto carsales, ask for 25K and just drive it around, seeing as you have no rush. Just let ppl ring you offering you

you might get it being a manual. but ppl might also think with the extras it might of been thrashed a little. not saying your a hoon. wish my sv6 was a manual. would be more fun . through some pics up. some members here could be looking for one. you have done similar to what i have done except i have dropped a capa supercharger into mine to give it more power through the whole range. but i am not selling mine. get some really good shots of it put on car sales and even here. let the members have a look at it.

Extras generally mean dick all. Condition, kays, service history and age are the biggest factors.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't even think to go on redbook, but now that I have I wish I didn't haha... they say 20-22. There's a few on car sales for around 25, so perhaps not too unrealistic. But most are a little less. I can always chuck it on carsales for 25 and see if I get any interest.

At the moment it's not a matter of how much, but whether I can bring myself to sell it. My head says yes my heart says hell no!

But if if I get some decent money for it now I can look forward to a VF in a couple of years. Just thinking out loud now... haha

Here's a couple of oldish photo's for those interested...

Problem you've got is the market is flooded with SV6 and SS's, I'd say low $20's.

agree, and what makes it worse is im sure a new one is about $36K drive away. i recon if you can get more than 50% o the new price after 3 years your doing well. had a 05 wk 5.7 stato from brand new paid $58K then in less than 3 years got only $30K and it was in great condition with low ks and all the extras. 2nd hand market can ruin people dreams for both sellers and buyers........

DO NOT UNDER-VALUE YOUR CAR BY GOING OFF THE REDBOOK PRICE!

Redbook gets the value of a particular make and model when the vehicle is sold, by what is on the 'sold price' when the stampduty is paid. The thing is, many buyers ask the seller to put a lower 'sold price' on the rego change over forms in order to pay less stamp duty. It happens all the time! The transport dep. do not investigate if a car worth 25K is written at 15K on the stamp duty form... 'got a bargain' hey? So this happens often enough and the REDBOOK value becomes 'undervalue'! You should take REDBOOK into account with a grain of salt and look at what dealers are selling for as well as the likes of private sales on Car Sales and the like. You can list your car for top dollar if you are not in a rush and if it is imaculate. If you list a car within the lower 10 or so on Car Sales, you get bombed with calls usually. There are many repairable write-offs out there for sale and if your car has good history you should get a better price than the REDBOOK price. Thats what I recon anyway. That said, I dont think its a great economic climate to sell any car (although people always need a car!). Good luck though.

Not quite true I've always been asked by RTA what I've paid for vehicles and if it's under the market value they will use which ever is higher.

I don't really wanna sell everything seperately, too much stuffing around for what I can be bothered with. I think the best way to get good money for it is just hope someone sees a current model commodore with these mods and wants it as is, someone young who just wants a car with rims and exhaust really.

Like I said I'm not too keen on selling stuff individually, don't think you'd want them anyway... I had an incedent one night with a gutter and took a big gash out of one of them. Don't know if it would even be fixable it's that deep. The springs are SSSL in the front and SSL rear, stock shocks.

It's ignition... much more unique! possibly a bitch to colour match though, hopefully I'll never find out.

Thanks everyone for your input. Pretty sure I'll be selling it... and then spend the next few years dreaming about a VF GTS/Clubsport

Might put it on carsales for 24,990 or 25,990 and see if I get any nibbles.

too much stuffing around selling parts seperately = more money in your pocket.

otherwise you are just giving them away when selling the car, as you arent going to get extra money for them. but if you really couldnt be stuffed, then price the car competitively on carsales and just sell it. a lot of people make the mistake of advertising for the same price as everyone else.... but everyone else isnt selling their car for the asking price on carsales anyway.

also, cant quite tell on the pics- but have you got mud guards on it? get rid of them .

The car is worth whatever the buyer thinks it worth. The extras do two things.

Firstly, they will stop me from buying it. You have probably well maintained your car, but if its full of boy racer stuff then I am going to assume that you are a boy racer and have been thrashing the guts out of it. That leaves me offering a pittance if I offer anything at all.

On the other hand, a boy racer is more likely to get excited by the extras, and consider that a saving because now he doesnt have to buy them, and offer you more. Hes going to think with his heart not his head, and just assume its not going to break.

I think you will get your 25k, but you might have to wait awhile for the right buyer to come along. The longer that takes though, the less likely you will get that much for it. Its a flip of the coin really, you may get lucky.

Either way, I dont think I would be removing anything. Sell it as is.

That's the kinda person I'm looking for. I know plenty of people who have bought a car just because it looked good and they didnt have to do anything to it and they'll pay that bit extra for it. My mate was looking for a manual SS, but bought an auto V6 calais cos it had 22's and was lowered and looked good... The problem is finding that person.

If I take it back to stock I'll get about 22ish for it then have to sell all the parts.

Another plus is they can have all the stock gear. That would add little value, but it will stand out from the rest.

So I put it on carsales on the weekend and today I got a call from a guy at valley motor auctions who said feel free to drop in and they'll value it and possibly buy it off me or something.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this? I've got no idea how this car auction stuff works.

Do they buy it off me and then auction it? Or do they just auction it and then take a commission if it sells?

I expect I'd get less for it doing it this way. Anyone?
