No real need for it to cost more than $250 ish - depending on the oil you choose. Best thing I did was find a local mechanic I could trust - cheaper services and no stuffing around - plus it's helping out a local small business. That's not to say that you won't need the dealerships for warranty work - but it's good to not be given the run around in the mean time.

$440 was from the local GM here in June........440 for oil change and filter? In ya dreams buddy. I could do it myself in 30 minutes, but thought better of that by going to my friendly local mechanic who did the job as well as filling in the books all for 140. He used Edge 5-30 in it that's to GM specs.
When it hits 3 years though might do it myself, but get local mechanic to flush the brakes and coolant plus anything else needed.

I had my 3000 k check up done yesterday and got them to change the oil and filter. They wanted $175 when I went to pay. I talked them down to $130. Still a rip off though

You can use this site for fixed prices: Fixed Price Car Service: Auto Service, Car Repairs, Car Servicing

my last service was 60,000km and i used the cheapest fixed price from this site and asked holden if they can match it, and they did!

The only reason I would go to a dealer is to either buy a car or get warranty work done.

I wouldn't even bother the buying a car from a dealer with their insane mark ups.
eg: 06 Astra paid $21,000 with company discount sold a year later with 40,000Klm's got $15,000 (not one person look at it when I advertised it for $17,000) then the dealer sold it in two days for $21,000 drive away!!!!!
06 VE V 3.6 Calais paid $40,000 with company discount sold a year and half later with 36,000Klm's got $26,000 dealer then sold it for $34,000 the next week and I've got plenty more of those examples.

Just a word of warning re warranty and servicing at non Holden workshops. If they use the wrong oil and/or dont use genuine filters and you have a mechanical failure, it will not be covered by warranty.

So keep in mind that you can service elsewhere but they MUST use genuine parts and the correct viscosity oil to keep your warranty.

you dont have to use genuine parts, but you MUST use parts suitable for the job and of equal quality

You can get rid of that service sign easily enough. From memory, hold down the trip button, turn the key to on (not start), the screen between the speedo and tacho says "reset service reminder" - you then hold down the enter key until it beeps (the enter key is the scroll wheel on the steering wheel).

Tell that to Holden that denied an engine claim last week because it had a non gen filter on it.

maybe they did a dodgey, or maybe the filter was substandard or it was the cause of the engine failure.
