Gday to all, i have had a problem with my ve series 2 sidi berlina international. it has been back to suttons 7 times over the last 6 months since i bought it new. maybe some one might have a clue why it builds up revs please see holden sidi problem on you tube video by rod 4111. any help would be appreciated before i have to take the matter further. thanks in advance. sorry i cant figure out how to paste a link.
Looking at the tech info for the 3.0 the desired idle speed is actually 650rpm.
How long after cold start does idle speed change to 750?
Silver Certified.
it idles at 550 rpm after about 3 min. then you drive for 20 min or so then she goes to 650 rpm with battery at 12.7 volts. after about 1hr she jumps to 750rpm with battery at 12.6 volts. charge can be any where between o percent and 46 percent. throttle position can be between 8 to 10 percent. at 750rpm she just wants to drag you into the traffic. holden have replaced the throttle body, hot wire acc and reprogramed the computer. all of the demo models at the dealership that they have tested stay at 550 rpm so they cant figure out why the data on this one is diffrent. driving me crazy as i think i might for the first time in my life have a lemon. bit rich comming from a guy whos first car was a HD premier power gluide, which i loved and man what a car to own at 18 ha ha.
thankyou to SSVANGON for posting of the link
There is a proceedure for resetting / recalibrating the base idle speed above coolent temp of 65 degrees C. It requires Tech2 in order to achieve this. This may have been done when fitting the new TB, but stranger things have happend. The other thing might be to check the coolent temp sensor for signals that are out of spec. Just not to far out in which to cause problems.
Alternatively you could try the same proceedure for ECM reset on the V8 models. Simply disconnect the negative lead on the battery and leave off for 1 hour. Reconnect negative lead. Leave car off till your ready for another long drive (or anything above 30mins) where the coolent temp reaches full temp.
Cheers

well finaly holden have got there act together after nine months of trying to figure out why the car was surging. A eng fro gmh has found that the BCM was faulty and telling the other computer that the battery charge state was below 60 perc, this caused the engine to surge to try and put some juice in the battery. Once the BCM was replaced its fine, but was getting some weird readings of the old one like battery charge status at 17 perc but the car still turned over fine.
I ended up having a chat with the enginer and found out some startling info which follows:
the charging system actual switches on and off not like the old days when it charged continualy so if you get a flat battery it may take some time to recharge.
the system wont start to charge until 5min after starting to avoid suges in the system so as not to cause eng fault light trips or to damage ipods and phones conected to charge system.
the new calcium batteries will not cherge to 100 percent but hang around the 70 to 80 percent mark.
If you want to get into enginer mode on your dash do the following. Hold down your left paddle switch on your steering weel as your turn the car on. comes up with eng mode and you can scroll thru the diffrent options to see whats happening like sump temp, throttle position, gera box sump temp, battery charge ect.
Godd motoring all.
