Question 06 ve sv6 check engine light on issue

Hi guys. I have a 06 VE done 54000k. The check engine light was on, and my mechanic used some sort of computer turned it off. It's not on now, and I'm just wondering if the timing chain is stretched will the check engine light keeps on. Even if its been turned off, it will be on again?

    Cheers guys!
    Oliver

If it's a stretched timing chain it will come back on. If it's only stretched by a small amount it may possibly take a period of time to come back on. Why are you thinkings it's a stretched timing chain?

Is he able to read the error codes?

I was reading the threats. It seems all 06 model VE Commodore have the issue of stretched timing chain. So I'm just worried. No he told me he had no idea why it was on, then just set it off.

I wouldn't worry about it until it the check engine light comes back on again, and if it does then take it to a dealer to get the codes checked (or somewhere else that can do it). I've had the timing chain replaced on my car and from memory the code was P00018.

If you end up having to get it replaced make sure you put a claim in with holden and they will most likely cover some of the cost, if you choose to have it done at a dealer.

This happens on my 06 SSV about once every 4 months. I just disconnect the battery and this seems to clear the fault code. I think mine is the ABS sensor. I will take it to the mechanic next time and have it checked.

Thanks for the help! I might take it to dealer and have a quick check. If the timing chain is stretched, I will have to talk to them for covering the replacement costs since it's the manufacturing problem.
