Hey,
I'm looking at getting the Redline Brembo calipers, DBA 4000 355mm slotted rotors and unsure on pads yet for my Calais. Now I assume my series 1 GTS rims will fit over them but I thought I better ask just in case... They'll fit fine, won't they?
Also, is it OK to just upgrade the fronts on the VE? Everything I've read has said the rear brakes are already adequate.
Regarding pads I've seen a fair few people choosing QFM A1RM, but I'm not sure if they're necessary. Is there anything decent I can just buy from the local Repco/Autopro/etc? I only do street driving and am just upgrading because my front rotors are warped and I can't stand how poorly it pulls up compared to my standard VT!
Thanks![]()
yes they will fit
stock pads are always best compromise...price/performance/durability/dust/noise
Greg sells QFM HPX pads that have a bit less bite than the A1RM if I remember correctly - More suited to street only applications - and very low dust. From memory, he also sells Remsa pads. It's worth having a chat with him to suss out a combo that suits.
Thanks for the replies. I emailed GLS or whatever they're called. Now I just need to find a contact at Holden to get cheap calipers![]()
e bay is flooded with brembos atm
Yeah its ok to do fronts only. Seems to be lots of different setups for fronts only. When I finally have the Wortec stuff to sell you will have the choice of fronts only.
But. Why, I think it looks kind of silly having great looking and excellent calipers up front and then these pidly things at the back? I know it can be a cost thing but I'm certainly going to do front and rear
I'm doing it for improved braking, not the looks. If just doing the front improves braking enough, then that'll do, if not, I'll do the rears too![]()
Yer all hsv 20s will clear the brembo calipers.
I got some Brembos form us with dba 4000 rotors ... getting fitted today will post up pics tomorrow..
There's a set there for $900 and another for $1100...
You must not have looked real hard
I look forward to doing this on my own SS when I get the money for the calipers. The DBA part number is 42604 for the 4000's, or the two piece rotor is available as a 52604 if you want it.
eBay search item listing number #190576573416 $1100
Or
#270814068860 $900
Can't do a link off iPhone ebay app, but if you put that in it'll come up
Brad
the MY12 Redline apparently comes with 4-pot rear Brembos as well, so when that arrives we can do the rears too!
Although the new ones will be red, and most of us will have silver fronts...
Thanks mate, but they're full packages which include rotors. I'm only after the calipers, bolts and pad retaining clips. I've asked a mate who gets trade price from Holden to find out the price of just those parts. Should be less than a complete kit on eBay.
These are the only parts I require:
Brembo Caliper LH 92221883
Brembo Caliper RH 92221884
Caliper Bolts 92139080
Pin & Spring Kit 89047711
How do you know they're not available from anywhere else?
Ah ok yeah the way they worded the sentence looked exciting, guess not...
I got a price for those items a few back, came to $960inc gst through a friend who works for preston motors parts dept. He said normal price for those items would be around the $1100mark, i spent 2weeks trying every brake speciallist shop trying to track down a set of slotted rotors to suit the brembos & only 2 shops could give me an answer.
You'd be looking @ $250per rotor through Racebrakes in Yarraville or roughly $210 if you use RDA ones(any brake shop can get them in acc to RDA), as for brake pads i got recommeded the EBC Reds by Racebrakes aswell as a few other brake shops which are around the $200-220mark a pair.
Look in the FAQ thread under Brakes, it has some good stuff the people have done.
Also, If doing the fronts, at the very least put some slotted rotors on the rear. Although they dont do as much, the have WAY less material, so the will be the next weak link. Reading in a Motor mag (or wheels, cant remember) when the did a road test of the Redline, they stated that when pushed, the rears gave out first, compromising the braking.
